Update: after reading Reddit, it appears that it's a known fact that the plastic am4 standoffs are too tall resulting in insufficient mounting pressure - hence the wiggle. The cooler is going back.

F this, I'll just get an aio.

Sorry to hear that... take caution of removing the HSF, wiggle it alittle before taking it off. You do not want to break the CPU pins due to the desgin of the AM4 socket.

Wiggle a little.... yours should be pretty straight forward since it < 24hrs

However, based on the temps you reported, they looked OK for me for 3950X

Am running 3700x with manual PBO settings with -0.0685V offset.

** R20 - max 75C for 15 mins
Prime 95 - max 77C for 1 hr
Aida64 - max 83C for 1 hr

Ambient at 31C

Using 360mm AIO, idle at 35C

Screw the standoffs in further with abit more force. Will solve your wiggly problem.

Scared to do so. What if the mobo gives way ? I read about it.. but was sketchy on whether I should do it.

I re did the benchmarks.

R20 80 to 83ish c.
P64 85c, spiking to 93c
Idle 50to55ishc, spikes here and there
Boot to bios 45c

For idle spikes, it is normal for Zen 2. It will spike up but goes down. If you have installed the latest AMD chipset drivers and used Ryzen balanced plan, should you see your 3950X idle at its normal speed with less 1V using Hwinfo or Ryzen Master

For your case of 50 to 55C, the case and fans you are using plays a part too since you are on air.

Indeed. Anyway I ordered on urgent basis an aio. It came already within 1.5 hours haha. Let's see what difference it makes.

Well.. I'm a bike mechanic hobbyist, so kinda weary about torque and breaking things so hope that explains it.

Update:

Ambient > 29-30C, no AC on
- Changed to Z73 AIO
- R20 30mins run @ 70-75C
- Idle @ 43-50C

I guess can call it a day now. Dark Rock Pro 4 anyone ?
