Recently I deposited a cheque into cheque deposit box at Compass One branch. After 2 working days, still did not receive the amount in my account. Called DBS helpline to find out, they said system did not show any cheque pending or rejected, so I asked if they receive the deposited cheque, say cannot tell need to find out from relevant dept. I asked when they can get back to me, DBS replied cannot confirm a date. I was like, WTF....no committed date to provide customer???
Called again on the next day to check, CSO says same thing.
Now contemplating whether to head down to the Compass One branch to chat with the manager there, at least they should able to let me know if the cheque was received? or what?
Next time, better to cash the cheque with counter instead. How could DBS just let the customer to wait for unknown days, even unable to tell if chq was received by the bank...really.

Did you write the name, account number and contact number properly on the back of the envelope?

For cheques deposited on Friday or the weekend, there is a long wait of about 2-3 working days.

Sometimes, a cheque can also bounce and you will receive a notification much later...

It can be factually true that they don't know. So not exactly a poor service thing. sometimes need time to investigate.

They can't commit to a date because they don't know i think it is fair.

But maybe what they could have done better is offer to keep you posted on a predefined schedule.

Yes, I entered my details on name, bank acct number & contact number behind the cheque. It is actually a cashier order from SCB.
The thing is already 3 working days & yet they have no records whether they receive the cheque?
Actually when I kept insisting for them to contact me by next working day after they stated unable to provide a date, CSO says ok. However both times I did not get the call back from them, so this tells me that they are just patronizing the customers to get off the phone, which to me it is just bad service.
I am thinking going down to the branch might be better since they should have the physical cheques there & likely I can get a better response than over the phone.

Typical of some kinda of people to attribute blame on poor service when thing does not turn out in their way.

Quick to lodge complain just because the rules cannot be bend according to their demands.

I salute the retail front liners who stood up to these people and often suffer in silence in the name of being professional in their role.

Yes u shld just call the branch instead of CSO or go down to the branch. they can view CCTV to see if you really put in any cheque etc.

Finally today head down to the branch which I deposited the chq. The counter did a check in the system & informed me the chq was actually received days ago & was rejected on the next day due to name mismatched.
She also acknowledged the 2 calls I made via Hotline which she saw in the system, I complained to her both instances CSO said they cannot find any records. She informed me likely they keyed in incorrect order for my name to search.
With this its indeed the bank inefficient CSOs, records were already in system but they input differently & unable to retrieve the info.
The chq was mailed to me & yes I received it in my mail box today.
Now I have to head down to the issuing bank to settle, they did not spell my full name on the chq, so all this debacle.

I think u do not know the basics of a good customer service. I am not a demanding person, hopefully u are not in service industry.

so the qn is did u put ur phone no or email at the back of the cheque.. if nv put phone or any way to contact, then no way they know who that cheque belongs to since the name is also wrong.

thought usually if rejected they would at least call u up to ask etc? provided u left ur ctc at the back of the cheque

TS mentioned it was due to issuing bank writing another name. This means TS uses different names at different banks.

Issue is my very long name cos am a Catholic, so total of 35 characters including spaces for my full name & the issuing bank typed 33 of them, on a usual chq the bank will allow , but because this was a cashier order from the issuing bank, the name needs to be exact. At first I made a fuss at DBS for rejecting it but similarly when I went to OCBC to ask, the CSO also stated the same.
Then it is the issuing bank at fault, causing me such a hassle if they overlooked to include full name for a cashier order. Am heading back to issuing bank to cash this into their bank instead.
The cashier order was mailed to me instead of personally collecting from bank.
Couple of lessons learnt here for me.
But for the case of DBS CSOs stating unable to check if chq was received pissed me off, cos to me my tots were chq missing or somebody stole it from chq deposit box? & they cannot even provide an expected timeline to get back to me on it, even patronizing customer by just simply agreeing with my 1 day terms but not fulfilling it.
Light was shed when DBS counter staff explained to me.

Singapoe's bank cheque depost drop in boxes sometimes really got to trust the staff handling them.
Malaysia bank many years ago already have cheque deposit machine which prints an image of a single cheque or an summary for multiple cheques in the receipt.
Although the use of cheques are 'discouraged' with the use of paynow , giro etc.
Previously for many years basic busineess accounts of some banks, processing of cheque and issue of cheque are free.
Recent years, basic business accounts of banks are charging fees to process cheques maybe it is more labour intensive. However other online transfer such ase send/ receive using paynow, interbank transfer and giro also subject to charges.

i recall DBS used to have cheque deposit machine, aft depositing it prints a receipt with a copy image of the cheque on it. nowadays don't see it anymore, so only quick cheque deposit boxes nowadays.
