A 'hunting' jacket that is typically worn about the country side -- I shall use this for rougher/more casual wear.

Bespoke this in England.

10 oz Holland & Sherry Donegal Tweed

Apart from the fabric, there are certain features that distinguish this coat from those one would wear to the office for a meeting/presentation.

Features include:

A storm flap (see the additional attachment on the lapels) that allows you to pop up the lapels when it gets cold.

Bellow pockets with inverted pleats that can be stuffed (in my case, wallets, change, keys etc).

I had a poacher's pocket added (traditionally meant to hide animals from the game-keeper), that I intend to use to put a small book, or reading materials like The Economist or the morning papers.

I also asked for a lapped seam down the back of the coat for some aesthetic/visual interest. No functional purpose.

Nice sportscoat, but how will the fabric do in our weather? Isn't tweed too warm unless you're in an aircon environment all day.

Okay, tweed, in general, especially heavier ones, are far too heavy to be worn in Simgapore. One'd die wearing them here in this heat.

This Donegal (a sub-type of tweed), was carefully selected. It has the exact same porous properties as discussed below, and is merely 1 oz heavier than the lightweights which are 8/9 oz. so definitely wearable in SG though I will wear it abroad.

I plan my wardrobe carefully and most of my coats are lightweight and wearable in the tropical climate, and I layer with an overcoat etc when in colder regions.

But one is right, that in general, tweed is absolutely unwearable in Singapore.

I need a single sportscoat that can be worn locally for office, lunch meetings, about town etc. Obviously needs to be unlined, but fresco might be a bit out of my budget.

Suggestions? Also, would it be best in navy, mid-grey, or mid-brown?

1/4 lined will do as well.

The colour depends on your vocation. I think navy and mid-brown would work best as a sports coat. Would pair marvelously with grey, tan, khaki, white trousers. Navy would be more 'business-appropriate' and brown, slightly more fun-loving.

Make sure you add some features that will distinguish your sports coat from a suit coat so people don't think you're wearing your suit coat without the trousers.

As for fabrics, opt for lightweight 10 oz and below, as well as all-wool fabrics. Skip cashmere because it wears warm, and is expensive. Depends on where you go to tailor your stuff, but VBC is a good starting point since they have lightweight stuff that is suitable for our climate.

Fresco is a very wise choice. It is indeed more expensive than normal fabrics, but the question is 'by how much', and is the comfort worth it?

Fresco aside, I believe in investing in my wardrobe so I can get years of wear out of them. I'd rather pay a bit more so I get smth better than pay less, and have a wide variety of things I don't get as much joy out of wearing.

A suit lasts upwards of 8 years (and is worn for more than 10 in the UK), so it makes sense to get smth one loves!

*And yes, classic menswear is addictive. How have you started your classic wardrobe?

- 1 pale blue FC solid
- 1 pale blue BC solid
- 1 pale pink BC solid
- 4 stripes / checks in varying shades of white and blue, BC
- 4 oxfords, 3 are in pink, blue and white solids, 1 in blue university stripe

Pants
- 4 are solids in black, navy, khaki and mid grey, and 1 charcoal pinstripe

Ties
- 2 grenadines, 1 navy and 1 forest green
- 1 mini houndstooth
- 2 repp stripe

Shoes
- 1 black captoe
- 1 dark brown dubmonk
- 2 loafers, a old, well-loved black penny and the other is a chocolate venetian calfskin
- 1 perf captoe, in "chilli", good for casual-ier days

+ a navy suit.

Half the clothes i actually have worn for years b/c I come from a "men's fashion" background, so my daily uniform during uni was like a rumpled BB oxford, wayfarers or clubmaster specs, APC PS or Black overdyeds with a pair of penny loafers / doc martens.

So not a stranger to spending on clothes, although CM is alot more ex than i thought! And I used to think niche labels like Jil Sander and such were pricey.

I think I need more ties.

The Navy, because it lends the wearer a tinge of playfulness despite the (relative) sombre clothing choice.

That's honestly, not a bad start. You've gotten the basic covered, that's for sure.

CM is more expensive, but you get more wear out of them because they're timeless. For instance, a suit that is classically proportioned doesn't fade out of fashion like skinny Dior Homme suits by Hedi Slimane, or baggy Neighborhood jeans that cost >1000 SGD. They look elegant throughout time. And besides, make a suit uses a lot of handwork and is time-consuming! Way more time consuming than slapping a brand on a machine-made item and selling it for hundreds upon hundreds, if not thousands of dollars.

I have a couple of grenadine ties too.

Here's part (the majority) of my tie collection. I didn't take a photo of the rest because, well, this is an older photo, and I'm lazy to take pictures of the newer additions.
