Yes, you are right that ACCA will not useful if TS is going to apply non accounting job.

A lot of people is not aware that ACCA and Oxford Brookes University have worked together to develop a BSc (Hons) Degree in Applied Accounting.

The BSc (Hons) Degree in Applied Accounting is as good as any other Degree program offer by Institution like Kaplan.

In order to get BSc (Hons) Degree in Applied Accounting, TS just need to complete all the Fundamentals papers, and do a project.

Along the way, ACCA will award Advanced Diploma in Accounting andBusiness after completing certain papers.

If only TS is very sure he going to stay in account and audit line, this path is one of the cheapest and the more recognise one.

Oxford Brookes Degree is not recognized by Singapore Accountancy Commission to become Chartered Accountant Singapore !!! :s22:

very few people go for this degree, those who take this degree are

either they find they got no time to complete ACCA

or their Fundamentals papers they do very well and there is a very high chance of getting 1st class honour.

LCCI have Cert & Dip level.

CAT claim that they are equal to Dip level.

Most Industries prefer LCCI Dip over CAT.

---------------------------------------------

CAT is under the same Org with ACCA which is the reason why CAT have more exemption compare to LCCI Dip.

But when it come to Degree courses, LCCI Dip have more exemption compare to CAT.

---------------------------------------------

If you used ACCA to apply for non-accounting related graduate position, you will never get it cause ACCA is a Prof Cert & it is never a degree.

The reason why people claim that it is like a Local Uni Degree because ACCA direct get CPA Sg (Accounting Licence in layman term) if you have 3 years of experience like Local Uni Degree requirement unlike D/L degree where they still needs to go for ICPAS Prof Exams.

However now CPA Sg become CA Sg & with the new requirement, it seem like getting an ACCA is not recognize to get CA Sg. So I would like to recommend taking a D/L Degree over ACCA.
Hi Kyoji83,

Getting a overseas degree is better than ACCA, ....Whats the difference between the degree course and ACCA ? ACCA I feel its more industry based while degree is more academic...Do you agree?

However BSc (Hons) Degree in Applied Accounting is not as good as any other Degree program offer by Institution like Kaplan. This is because in order to get BSc (Hons) Degree in Applied Accounting, TS just need to complete all the Fundamentals papers, and do a project.

In short, what you learn are from ACCA Org & not from Oxford Brookes University. Oxford Brookes University only mark your project to confer you a degree. This mean that what you learn are not at University level but at Prof Cert (ACCA) level.

Having an Advanced Diploma from ACCA is as good as having an Advanced Diploma from private school because it cannot help you to get a CPA Sg unlike the full ACCA.

Let assume that ACCA exams is as hard as degree exams. With a degree, I can work in any job as long as it require a degree. However with the same effort, I can only work in account related jobs with an ACCA. Do you agree?

Different country have different accounting standard. ACCA is base on UK standard. If I am going to work in Australia, will an Australia Accounting Degree be more industry based compare to ACCA?

oxford brooke is useless. dun waste time on it. people who took is generally for the purpose of pursuing a master program.

I myself am in the plymouth program currently. it takes 1 year to complete. but please dun think its easy. takes commitment as period is shorten. 3 sem a year. this program qualify for exemption to sqp fd program. probably just need to take 2 papers

and when I signed up. SAA give 1k discount if ure from poly.

a plus probably is that the program is a 'top up' but the cert will not mentioned anything. u will receive the full cert as those in the uk

do take note that entry requirement is stringent that is ure are from local polys or have completed acca f1 to f9. non accounting background will not be considered. rationale being u go straight to final year. the school expects u to have a certain level of understanding in the subject.

accountancy dip from other institution are given entry on case by case basis subject to uk approval.

Normally a UK degree course 1 year have 3 sem/term which is 3 to 4 modules per sem/term. So the period is not shorten. Your degree course only have 6 modules while I have 9 to 12 modules with the same 1 year duration. So your knowledge learn in Uni level is lesser. On top of that, my degree course is 2 to 3 years part time which is much longer then your course because they only allow students to start 1st or direct 2nd year of 3 years degree course.

Non-accounting/business background will not be considered too in my degree course but you can always take a Dip/Adv Dip from pte sch to enter my degree course which I strongly believe it is the same for your case. Nothing stringent about your degree course entry requirement.

If you talk about sqp, studying in plymouth is one of the easiest & shortest way to get CA Sg.

However in term of competent as a fresh graduate, your knowledge may lose to other D/L accounting degree because you learn lesser. The fact is you did not even learn Taxation for an Accounting and Finance Degree.

.

But can it cost below 16 k?

Most of the Pri Deg are costing around 20k and I can only think of ACCA, if TS passes on first attempt for all the 14 subjects, unlikely he is going to spend more than 14k and maybe UniSIM, if TS is a local, he can get the government grant which should be somewhere around 16k.

The Plymouth degree cost around 14 K, 6 modules....but I need to take ACCA F1 - F9 first ..because I only have A levels, or I can choose to take diploma course and advanced diploma and then the Plymouth final top up degree...approximately 3 years to get the degree.. Can consider...

If you are going towards D/L Degree, just take Pte Dip cause no point going for partial ACCA route.

If you are going for ACCA route, just chiong for your CPA Sg.

Yes, make sure you get at least a ACCA and if possible chiong for CPA.

I known a handful of fresh graduate from UOL major in Finance and banking, most of them cannot get a job in the bank ending up working as an account assistance (doing solely AP or AR) getting from 2.2k to 2.5k compare with a full ACCA fresh graduate (without working experience) getting about 2.7 k and above.

Of course those grad from UOL who manage to go in the bank are getting near to $38k per years.

Hi lcheowl,

can i check with you this lcci diploma , cat diploma and local poly diploma whats the difference? All are diplomas what ..but the duration for lcci is like 3 months, for CAT is like half a year while for a local poly is like 2 years...is quality of education a difference or the recognition of the diploma differentiates itself in terms of duration.

full timers have tutorial classes and lectures separately while part timer cramp everything together so if ur financials are sound, go for full time.
also, the uni course notes is quite bare. the lecturers are required to use their slides so no choice on that. therefore, u have to do quite a bit of reading on ur own. I wont say whether easy or not because everyone got their own opinion. modules may be proj and exam or pure proj.
ACCA is widely sought after because its recognised worldwide, brand sells

I think all the 3 diplomas duration are about the same, unless you have some exemptions.

Local diploma is always better than any other diplomas. If happen you taking diploma not from local poly, make sure you do not stop there. Die die must get a degree.

This is because most of the private diplomas is not recognised in Singapore, CAT is one of the few that is recognised. LCCI I not so sure.

I heard ACCA recently restructure their program and get FIA to "replace" CAT. For detail better to consult the program consultant.
