Hi my friend is thinking of getting a dell inspire 6000. Asking on behalf of him.

I'm wondering are the following upgrades worth it?

$103 to upgrade from a 64mb x300 to x300 128mb. intending to use this laptop to do some light hl2 gaming
(i cannot find anybody with a 64mb x300 with google so i can't compare performances at all)

$130 to increase from 60gb 4200rpm to 60gb 7200rpm?

$170 to increase from 2x256mb to 1x512mb? are ddr2 prices going to drop anytime soon? they are very expensive at the moment

$30 from 6 cell to 9 cell batt? (i'm thinking yes, need a confirmation)

thanks in advance.

Any 510m user here? Was thinking of getting a 510m instead of 6000 cos dun like the widescreen, fonts are too small to be seen. Any comments on 510m?

1) an integrated card 128mb (shared) -> upgrade to X300 for $103 is a good deal!

2) because i'm actually using it in school, i am probably loaning a 2.5" hard disk to satisfy my needs.. i kept the +20GB hdd option out.

3) i'll suggest stick to the 2x256mb at the moment, because ddr-II prices are still very high.. unless you're going to upgrade in the near future.

4) 6 - 9 cells battery upgrade, for sure! but i left this one out too, because i'm gonna use the school's power point most of the time..

to convince you i do really own the 6000:

Yeps... my latitude's tiny fan doesn't spin until the CPU does some work and actually heats up...

tidus792,

-64MB should be enuf. As with desktop gaming, the classic 64MB ti4200 performs and even beats a 128MB ti4200...

2) $130 to increase from 60gb 4200rpm to 60gb 7200rpm?

-A faster hdd always improves performance...

3) $170 to increase from 2x256mb to 1x512mb? are ddr2 prices going to drop anytime soon? they are very expensive at the moment

-DDR2 still quite ex, is there big price diff between these 2? Try to leave 1 slot free

4) $30 from 6 cell to 9 cell batt? (i'm thinking yes, need a confirmation)

-Yep! that's the reason for getting a portable in the first place...
