I'm using the Inspiron 6400 for the last 9 months; no problem to date.

This notebook runs very cool; the fan hardly comes on.

May I suggest you go for Windows XP instead of Vista.

Vista lacks hardware and software support for the time being.

What is a good option to add on to Dell 6400

Hi everyone,
May I know what is a good option to add on to Dell 6400 ??
For the OS should I go for XP or Vista ??

Any advise will ber appreciated

I want to keep my buget between 1500 to 2000

If I do not have any Credit card, can I still buy a Dell on installment plan ??

my C600's hindge broke, looking for a new laptop for less than $2K

Hi everyone,

I'm new to this dell User Thread but own a super old Dell Latitude C600, using it fine for the past 1/2 year (was passed down to me by my bro) but this morning, while opening up the laptop, the RHS hindge connecting the LCD monitor to the keyboard/body was broken.. so heart broken :(:( called Dell Customer Care hotline and they told me they do not support laptop models 5 years or older... then the lady offered to check whether the hindge part is still in stock or not but to my horror.. no more stocks.. the Database says its already EOL... :s22: so she suggest i get a new laptop

so can anyone recommend me a good replacement for this old but trusty laptop of mine?? am looking at the XPS range now but dunno which is good.. my background is I'm a programmer and student now (just got back to study in an Aust Uni) I work with both windows n linux, so the machine must be linux hardware driver friendly if possible, I write/test programs in both linux and java J2SE/JSP/Eclipse.

Budget: less than $2K

Thanks for any advise in advance!!

Regards,
Pidgey

may i know if Intel® Centrino® Duo Mobile technology Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor T5200 (2MB Cache, 1.6GHz, 533MHz FSB) is INDEED slower than Intel® Centrino® Duo Mobile technology -Intel® Core™ Duo Processor T2250 (2MB Cache, 1.73GHz, 533MHz FSB) since the Ghz is slower though it is Core 2 Duo Process for the first one.

And also, may i know if the current 3 years package of "1Yr Next Business Day Warranty + 2nd&3rdYr Collect&Return + 3Yrs Plus Phone Support

There's no provision to burn recovery CD; to recover to Factory Default press Ctrl+F11.

The Vista CD do not have all the programs that come with the computer, only the OS.

If you have a virus infection or your system crash, you press Ctrl+F11 to recover to Factory Default.

U should extend your warranty to at least 2 years unless u dun mind your system got problem and u troubleshoot yourself. Especially if u carry your laptop around

I think they did mention water spilling on the website but not drop into water hahaha. I guess they are the same when it comes to warranty. But best confirm with them.

Hi human_shieldz thank you for your good advice, I was thinking to extend the warranty to complete cover when my 1 year limited is ending, could this be done?
