Well. the specs is almost the same. If you want to go for a smaller and lighter one, then go for 640m. I just bought a 6400 though. I go for the spec.

It should be in mouse properties. There are some tabs there specifically for the touchpad (like touchpad, buttons, edge motion, gesture). Open the tab labelled Devices, there's radio button to disable touchpad and disable touchpad buttons.

It just happens that the last PC Show coincided with the date of release here, good for u :D

The freebies were the free delivery and 'free' upgrade to 1g ram right? No difference if u buy it online actually.

Do gives us a review! :)

You are right,so I bought mine online and didn't go to the PC show.
I got mine upgraded to 2.0 T2500 duo core,80GB 7200 rpm hdd,1 gb 667mhz ram,hd sound, blue tooth,DL dvd writer,9 cell batt and Nvidia 7400.Also bought the 3 year complete cover with accidental damage.

So far for me it's performing up to expections for my needs.
Pros
dell media direct, allows boot up to watch dvd, pictures, media files and listen to music without booting up winxp.(though not all media files are supported)
Control buttons in front and lighted with 2 headphone jacks and mic just below.
Built in webcam good for skype and video calls
Trueshine screen, good for dvd and media but some may not like it for surfing the net because of some reflection. The built in speakers are okay for me and when I require better sound, will hook up a pair of headphones or use a bluetooth stereo phones.
Svideo out with nvidia card allows connection to tv with dual resolution and also 5.1 sound output from the 2 headphone jacks and mic connections.
9 cell batt, good for up to 5 hours of use.

cons
Some have reported a soft mushy keyboard on the right side.details are here http://www.jrin.net/?p=80 personally I do not type very much and mine is not noticeable.
Buying tips
Make sure you customise to your requirements on the website, than select get sales person to call you up.Negotiate for some freebees like a case or free delivery.(personally I have not tried it but some have and gotten a better deal)
if you are into connecting to a TV,also get the sales person to order for you the svideo component or composite video adapter which is not listed on their website but in the user manual, cause they will not allow you to purchase it separately.(I know cause I tried)
so if any one here is buying here is buying theM1210 please order the a/v adapters for me and I will reimburse you. Thanks

I'm have check with the SE and was told that 640m weight 2.5kg and 6400 is 2.8kg. However, 640m does not have any option to upgrade to a better graphic.

My choice of purchase is therefore 6400 which comes with a larger screen and upgrades :)

P.S:- Can u feel a 300gram difference :s11:

Hi!

I bought my 6400 at the PC show with 1 GB Ram, 100 GB HDD and the x1400 256mb graphics card. the 6400 is heavy stuff. but so far so good for me. I think the weight difference bet the 640m and the 6400 is not too much. would recommend the 6400 like afsl76 has mentioned. got bigger screens and upgrade options.

As for the dell custy service, I actually re-partition the hdd when I got it, and there was a certain sequence to the subsequent re-installation of the software. I got it mixed up at first, but the Dell staff hang on on the phone with me as well as emailed me the procedures. so quite happy with the service there.

Do you mean that the headphone jack actually outputs 5.1 sound? Is it a hybrid jack with headphone and optical SPDIF connection?
How does it hook up to external 5.1 speakers: does it have the 3 headphone type of speaker connectors (one for front left/right, one for rear left/right, etc.), or is it optical or coaxial (RCA)? If it is digital (optical, coaxial), does it carry the full 5.1 channels for all audio (like games) or only for Dolby/DTS streams (like when playing DVD)?

Should be easy to buy from SLS, right? Don't need special cable from Dell.

Thanks.

i would also like to find out the physical difference between the 6-cell and 9-cell batteries for the xps m1210. other than being heavier, is the 9-cell battery bigger? cos that will directly affect the dimensions and thus the size of the machine right? i've seen some pictures of the m1210 with a black retangular piece sticking out from behind, while some don't. is that the difference between the 9 and 6 cell batteries? thanks alot in advance!
