i would also like to find out the physical difference between the 6-cell and 9-cell batteries for the xps m1210. other than being heavier, is the 9-cell battery bigger? cos that will directly affect the dimensions and thus the size of the machine right? i've seen some pictures of the m1210 with a black retangular piece sticking out from behind, while some don't. is that the difference between the 9 and 6 cell batteries? thanks alot in advance!
I think you are right about the 9 cell batteries sticking out from behind. At least that's the case for the 700m/710m. But really, if you buy the M1210, there isn't a choice. If you want the graphics card upgrade (which is a must-have, otherwise might as well buy other models), Dell insists that you must buy the 9-cell battery. Obviously the graphics card takes more juice to run.

I just ordered my DELL XPS1210 for S$2370.00

Comes with 1.83 Processor Duo Processor
80Gig SATA Harddisk
1Gig Ram DDR2
Wireless
Bluetooth
Internal 8X DVD+/-RW Combo Drive
Intergrated Sound Blaster Audigy Advanced HD Audio
12.1 Wide Screen XGA with Truelife & 1.3MP Webcam

Is it a good Deal? Any Feedback about this Notebook?

Yes the 3 jacks are in front,2 headphone and 1 mic phone jack. You would need to connect all 3 cables and enable it according to the user manual for 5.1 sound output

The svideo composite and component adapters also has a s/pdif out to a/v amp.(this would also be digital output)This feature is not available in Sim Lim Square. Also I have not been able to locate svideo to component cables.Would be glad if anyone here knows where I can get one.

Yes,the extra bit behind is the 9 cell batt.I think the normal 6 cell should be flush.

Just some things to note.
The free 1 gb ram is 2*512 ddr2 533mhz from the free upgrade.if you intend to add ram, upgrade to the 1 piece 1 GB ddr2 667mhz.
For better speed if u want the 80gb 7200rpm is a good option.

I have been using it and it been nice and solid feel for me, did you manage to order the composite or component adapters?cause they are not listed on the website and are for connection to TV.could you pm me email me if you can order them on my behalf. Thanks

I already bought the a/v kit (which consists of a svideo cable, composite cable and s/pdif cable) What I need a just the composite & component adapters, basically the svideo will be plugged into 1 side for input and the other side will have outputs for composite or component cables)

The only way to buy it is to email the sales person (mine was John and ask him to include for delivery with your computer)He will be able to bill you separately for it.These adapters are not listed on the website also.
I was not able to do so because I only found out that about both adapters from the owners manual and they won't deliver it separately.

Let me know,Thanks

I don't think so. There's no promo for XPS. The E-VALUE CODE is a gimmick lah :s13:

Question to bros who have the XPS 1210 with dedicated GPU: does it allow you to set higher resolution if you use external monitor? Like, if you are on the road and play games, you use the 12" screen. But at home, you hook it up to a 19" LCD and external kb/mouse set and game at higher res. Can that be done?

Also, can you help to measure the thickness of it (exclude the little feet at the bottom)? At first sight, I thought it's very thick, but I saw someone posted the dimension and it didn't look so bad. I measured my 700m and they are similar, maybe it looks thick only because it's small.

Thanks.

The promotion changes very frequently. Sometimes free ram upgrade, sometimes free dvd-writer, sometimes free hdd upgrade, sometime free delivery, sometimes free graphics upgrade ... and combinations of those. So even if you pick the exact config as another person, the price may be different every week :)

To me, free ram upgrade to 1GB - not too attractive, cos they use 2 pieces of ram, I would rather go SLS buy 1 more piece of 1GB (then I can have 1.5GB, and can get another piece later to get to 2GB). Free HDD upgrade to 80GB - not attractive either, I would rather go SLS buy a bigger HDD (80 or 100GB) and use the original 60GB as external HDD. (But this one seem to be SATA, so might be harder to find external casing.) Free DVD writer upgrade - worth it, cos it's probably not easy to buy your own drive outside that fits perfectly, and you can't recycle the original drive easily. Free deliver - that's a $70 saving, you can't get replacement for that at SLS :)

So what's the dimension of the XPS 1210.. I'm now trying to compare it wif a Sony Vaio ZS23 which is 315 x 24.7-36.0 x 234.3mm and 1.85kg (including battery)..

Wonder how much thicker or thinner is the XPS.. Is the weight alot heavier too?
