Btw XPS 1210 is really thick for a 12"

That's my first impression too when I saw it at the PC Show. Really not sure if that's true or just optical illusion, but it seem much thicker than my 700m.

The Dell site shows the 710m as 32 x 297 x 215 mm (HxWxD). Oddly, I can't find the demision of the M1210, except for this picture showing it as ? x 297 x 221. The the height (thickness) is not mentioned.

Looking at the side views, the M1210 doesn't look any thicker than the 710m

Thinking of ordering Dell's new XPS online rather than fighting my way through the thick crowd. Already went yesterday and got a 'feel' of the machine. Now wondering whether to go back there & order or just order online. Online also same promotion as IT show (free upgrade to 1GB).Got free delivery. Maybe just forfeit the $50 Robinsons voucher (no biggie to me) if I buy at the show.

Has anybody bought laptops online from Dell? Any hitches? How long delivery time? Thanks in advance.

Also, for those who bought at the show, was it cash & carry or do they deliver it later?

Ordering online, no problem lah. That's Dell's business model (take out middle man, sell direct via online). If order at PC Show, you still have to wait the same period (usually around 7 days), not cash & carry. I've done that before a couple of times, go look/see on Thu, order online on Sunday.

A little advise... their delivery sucks. When they call you to arrange delivery, don't select a night time slot. Avoid Friday/weekend also if you can. I have bad experience before, delivery supposed to be Friday 6pm to 10pm, i waited till 1am. Whole night no one call me either. I tried calling them over weekend, no one working, sent emails, no reply, no one call me to arrange other time. Monday, after many calls, they finally tracked down their delivery contractor, they say that day rain wor, so delivery all delayed. And the delivery guys, all 3 of them in the van, all don't have mobile phone wor. WTF. I don't blame Dell, but their selection of contractor is hurting them bad. So, advise is, get a day time delivery on weekday when you can call somebody if they no show.

I'm still sittiing on the fence on this one. Order tomorrow before the promo ends or wait till Comex in September? Maybe then got better freebies.

Btw, when you order online, can you pay by cheque upon delivery? Or do you have to mail in before delivery? Reason for asking is because I don't have credit card. I only got POSB Debit card.

Not sure whether you can pay by cheque upon delivery. Most likely not. Credit card is the most common mode of payment when purchasing online. And not sure whether can deliver to office also. Usually when doing credit card transaction online, the store (at least the good ones) will insist that the delivery address be the same as the billing address (as per credit card). This is a security measure to prevent someone from placing order with your credit card number and delivering to his own home.

I think the best is to try out the purchase process online at Dell, follow the steps as though you are really buying it, but don't do the final confirmation step. See whether it offers you cheque payment and different delviery address.

one thing i noticed about the XPS1210 is that for local (sg) context, there isn't any option for the go7400, only the GMA 950.

whereas, in USA, even msia, there is the go7400 option

Not sure about the online orders but the flyer I got at the IT show shows that you can opt fo the NVidia Go 7400. However, you need to order it as a bundle with the bigger 9 cell battery. ie, Go 7400 + battery = extra $102.

ok, that clarifies my doubt. At first, i was wondering whether sg consumers getting the short end of the stick

ya i bought ym 6400 with my posb mastercard (debit) of course, paying full. If u pay buy installment or use the posb go card which cannot be used online then too bad

Saw on my order status, product shipped. Just a qn. Do you all check your product carefully . Say on it, check ram and hdd etc before signing off. Or simply go tru the receipt to verify the parts. My coy strangely does not bother to check and trust whole heartedly.

The delivery people just drop off the box and ask you to sign. Won't even bother asking you to verify the order number pasted on the box or anything. Certainly not going to even wait for you to open up the box. No chance of booting up or checking for dead pixel or anything. They are just contractor doing delivery. If the info pasted on the box matches, you just sign and they f off. Then you take your time to check all you want, and complain to Dell if any problem. Did I mention the delivery sux?

always ask the delivery to be in the daylight never at night but my delivery was ok, within 2 days, a nice malay auntie brought her small son along and passed me the lappy
