Hi everyone

Im using this laptop and i want to upgrade from 512m (2 X 256)ram into 1 g ram.

Did this laptop only have 2 slot for the ram ?

I read the instruction it stated that only 1 slot can be accessed by user. (meaning i must remove the 256 ram from the slot )

Dont really quite understand.........hope someone can enlighten me .

Memory module connector two SODIMM sockets (one user-accessible socket)
Memory module capacities 128, 256, 512 MB, and 1 GB
Memory type 3.3-V DDR SODIMM
Minimum memory 256 MB
Maximum memory 2 GB

One socket is easily accessible but the other require opening the computer. If you're not technical, you should get help.

I'm not sure if you can mix RAM e.g. 1X256MB and 1X1GB; this will be easier to do this. Just remove the 256MB and insert a one GB. Total 1.256GB.

You may want to call DELL to get more info.

just asking, if dell were to change my hdd, will they be able to help me clone my OS and data to the new hdd?

my C: drive got bad sector, called them just now and they tell me to call during working hours, which means they can only repair earliest mon noon or tue...

they will leave the HDD with you for 1-2 weeks to backup yr data...but u will lost yr DELL PC restore...

thanks, anyway i dun have the restore partition, I have the dell xp cd instead

You can do this:

1. Create Image of C: partition on DVDs using Acronis 7.0 (hopefully your C: is not too big)

2. Replace old hard disk with new

3. Boot up Acronis 7.0 with Bootable Rescue CD

4. Remove Bootable Rescue CD

5. Put in last DVD (the one that contain the image of your C: partition) and start your recovery.

It would be easier to clone old hard disk to new one in an external casing.

partitionmagic... but is more risky.

i think use cloning method is safer...

You can use:

1. Windows XP CD

2. Windows Disk Management (if you connect hard disk to external casing)

3. Software supplied by hard disk manufacturer

4. Acronis

5. PartitionMagic

Why is PartitionMagic risky?

I've used it for the last 5 years with no problems.

cos i ever kenna when i move/resize the partition.

It hang, no choice have to restart, and all data gone..

It's important to defrag and error-check hard disk before moving/resizing/merging partition.

No problem for the last 5 months.

Good value for money

Battery can last from 2.5 to 3.0 hours comfortably

Runs nice and cool.
