Checking wif those guys who hav bought frm dell....

currently looking at xps 1210, it comes wif 'free upgrade of ram to 1gb'
e config states 2 x 512mb 533 ddr2

wat if i decide to choose 1 x 1gb 667 ddr2 instead?? will i b forfeited?

it is stated tt e Free upgrade frm 512mb to 1024mb is valid only if e corresponding upgraded item is selected, when i try to uncheck tis item, e site adds 100buck to e total system price...

is there some system error or basically i cant choose another ram config w/o paying e extra 100 buck for forfeiting e free upgrade??

Will be getting my 1st laptop a Dell 6400. However, should I buy by this weekend to enjoy the Sitex promo?? Dell promotions previously more or less the same or is there a better deal in the Sitex offer. Thanks.

How much did you pay for the above config?

You should be able to get >5 hours for normal usage.

$1417 all together. IF more than 5hours that will be great as I am looking at this kind of batt life surfing net and watching anime on my bed.
In fact intend to get C2D in the end no point for that 10% more perforamce when I pay more than 10% to upgrade. Not intend to do anything demandin gon this notebook...I guess CD would be good enough..

Got the XPS 1210 at the Dell Kiosk at Suntect over the weekend. After some config, price is ard S$3k. The guy says delivery in about 2weeks, while when I got the confirmation order thru email, it says will be 5-7 days. Dunno which is correct.

Is there anythg I shld look out for the new laptop? Heard that there's a lot of junk programs thrown in. Maybe should do a reinstall of windows...

You'll not be able to play CD/DVD without Windows.

Dell prefer to overestimate the delivery, I got mine within 6 days.
Check out for the Screen and any missing body parts(I had a missing part).

I did a reformat, deleted the recovery partition and MediaDirect(Free up abt 2GB of Space)
Reinstall windows, and only install back the drivers and Dell Quickset(excluding the Profile Manager).

Good thing about DELL is they provide Windows XP and driver CDs. Makes reformatting a breeze.

The reinstallion of DELL MediaDirect is very complicated.

While you are installing the Windows XP operating system, you must partition the hard drive so that 2048 MB of space is left unpartitioned and reserved for Dell MediaDirect. To do this you will need to calculate the partition size in megabytes (MB) by deducting 2048 from the total available space in MB on the hard drive.

You can create a maximum of three partitions in addition to the unpartitioned space reserved for Dell MediaDirect.
