Vista is nothing but memory eating monster......thus i recommend people who wish to have productivity or gaming wise smooth, better stick with windows XP......

but already got the vista, not going to buy xp.... dont have spare money for tat

stock gfx drivers, graphics is 2.7, gaming graphics is 3.4

wif nvidia latest drivers, graphics is now 3.6 e other still at 3.4

e score for stock driver is when i gotten my system....

after i formatted e comp, reinstall vista n update e drivers, e windows experience index ask me to rescan e system to update e score... e updated score show is 3.6...

I only know that they will call you to confirm the delivery date. I think thats about 2-3 days after you have ordered online. I have not changed configuration before though... so I cannot help you in this

By the time they call you to confirm delivery, it's already too late.

Changes to specifications should be done as early as possible.

No call from them, except the bank(for installment payment approval)

btw, I have purchased a dell laptop intel core 2 533 mhz with a customisation of 1gb 677mhz ram thinking it would be faster. after that, i did a search and it seems it doesn't matter since the processor would process at 533 mhz speed only through the ram. can anyone tell me the real truth? thanks a lot. urgent pls.

Yes, it doesnt matter unless your FSB is running at 667
Even so a 667 RAM may still be slower than a 533 RAM due to latency issuse

I've seen benchmarks and the performance of the RAM to Speedg is an inverted U-shape graph where the max. pt @ 533mhz

just a question, why dell ram much more expensive than the outside selling like simlim? any speciality .... i havent open the notebook to see what ram they put in my xps ....

manged to change the ram speed back to 533 mhz. thanks to the dell customer officer. do anyone knows how much ram slots do they have in the 6400 laptop? mine comes with 2 x 512 ram but i guess i may have to upgrade soon.

thanks Diavonex, you are so helpful... lastly, how you think of the truelife lcd thingy? i didn't upgrade that and i went to the net and searched... it seems under sunlight shinning or bright light shinning, the screen will be very screen like the mirror reflective... however, for watching movie or gaming, it is a plus...

lastly, in any chance can i format the dell hardisk with win vista and buy a original winxp and get it installed instead? i got the default win vista premium but i do understand people commenting it runs quite slow... but i do know dell comes with the recovery stuff inside hardisk...

Truelife LCD are hard to look after, finger print show up easily and like you say the reflection.

If you mess thing up (crash or virus infection), you can use Ctrl+F11 to recovery.

If you decide to format and install Windows XP, I suggest you image the whole drive with Acronis 10 so that you can go back to Vista within less than 30 minutes.

The Inspiron 6400 should also come with a Vista CD.

Problem with Vista is the current limited hardware & software support.
