I read it somewhere in this thread but simply too tedious to search page by page.....
can my inspiron 1420 use XP? when buying last time, Dell told me no drivers in XP for certain thing, but I read before from this thread that some have converted back to XP...

Any problem doing so? My lappie always hangs. Frustrated

i jus refoormtted my com and all the drivers are gone...
i instaleed most of the drivers but i jus cannot find the driver for the wireless..

can some one help?

Is there any way to check if the XPS notebook is a WLED LCD notebook?

(Without comparing 2 notebook (1 with WLED and 1 without, since WLED is supposed to be slightly thinner) side by side

Very obvious. Just check the thickness. It's about 3-4mm only.

replaced lcd and flex cable, problem persist but intermittent only. they sending mobo + technician tonine.

From Dell / Getronics after warranty lapse?
That is expensive even though only 12.1" WXGA gloss panel.
Test and make sure the problem does not return though.

Hello Fellow Dell Users,

I just purchased a Dell Inspiron 1420 from the recent IT show.

As its my first time getting a laptop, i would like to extend my queries to any kind soul out there that can clear my doubts?

1: If i play my laptop with the AC adapter attached, it means im running on AC power?
2: The battery is really hot when im running my laptop on AC power, is this normal?
3: Will i run the risk of overheating my charger and thus affecting my laptop performance and shelf life in the long run?

The above qns are linked and i hope any kind soul could help clear my doubts? Lastly, my friends were suggesting for me to change to XP OS? Any comments on this?

Just curious...Is the current pricing (11/3/08) for the 1420 cheaper than what U get at IT show? Coz it seems like Dell reduce the price further after the IT show...

For all I know, Dell Direct is killing off the Courts models for some reason. -.- Anyway, kaki369, to answer your queries, the laptop will run on AC power when your battery has been fully charged. It's recommended that you charge your battery to full, then when you notice that your battery is full as indicated on the taskbar, take out the battery and run on AC power standalone. This way, you can save the life of your battery. Do a refresh of your battery every 2 months, meaning that you should then let your laptop run until the battery zeros out, then charge fully again.

Hmmm so from what i deduce from ur reply is that all along i`ve been running on AC power because my battery has been fully charged and im running the com with the charger on and all. Am i right?

And from ur second para, since my batt is 100% charged. I should remove the battery in this instance and run the power directly which means AC power standalone as u had mentioned. Right?

Hmm i`ve just translated my understanding from ur reply, pls correct me if im wrong as i hope to understand what u mean as this laptop is the biggest investment in 23yrs of my life. Minus my business investments and ILPs

Yeah i read somewhere here in HWZ that the lesser u mess around or rather utilize ur batt, u will prolong the life span as u had mentioned.

But im not very sure with regards to ur last para with regards on refreshing battery every 2mths? Im sorry, im pretty new to laptops?

Your interpretation's correct. Your computer is using AC power when plugged in at 100% battery life. Some say that the battery charging circuit is cut off, but from what you've experienced, if that's the case, why're you feeling the heat of your battery generating when it's "on AC power at 100% battery"? That's a seed of doubt to think about.

I'm not sure of anyone who can prove the fact that using fully-charged battery with AC power is really harming your battery. Personally I'd take out the battery. As what you see in retail shops, the battery's removed.

Refreshing your battery allows your battery to know it's actual capacity of charging fully, instead of having half-charge to full-charge cycles, which would mess up the actual timing of it's lasting. I learnt this from Diavonex, if I'm not mistaken.
