XPS M1330 - Anyone facing Harddisk zzzzzz sound

Anyone with Xps m1330, hardisk zzzzzzzzzzz sound. The sound is persistent, not very loud, but very irritating, and its continuous!!!

It this a QC problem or poor sound insulation?

Anyone?

Bro, not sure if its HDD.... but got persistent sound. Its quite obvious, very difficult to concentrate. I got other notebooks, without such sound. I think its a hardware fault imho.

Just wanna check if others face any similar issues on their XPS.

Your system showing 3.gG of ram is normal. Wait till Vista SP1 release, the problem will be fix. I'm using Vista SP1 so problem fix. I'm very happy with M1330. No problem for me.

Its the CPU Noise - An issue with Core 2 Duo!!

OK, folks, just found out after a call to Dell Support.

My sound came from the bottom right... which is the cpu area.

Apparently, according to them, this issue sometimes happen to Core 2 Duo, does not happen to pentium, etc. Even after hardware exchange, this prob could still be there. Dunno y

He suggested to try this 3rd party software , RM Clock Utility, and remove a setting called "Enable Popup mode" (under Chipset)..... And it works!!!! No more cpu disturbing noise.

http://cpu.rightmark.org/download.shtml

I not sure what effects will removing this "Enable Popup mode" in RM CLock Utility caused.

I'm ok with this software solution for now.

Note: What might work for me, might not work for u. Try at your own risk. if needs be, just call the experience dell guys. XPS - 24 x 7 phone support.

Cheers!!!

Helpppp.....!!

hi guys.. any idea on this?
can i just buy e 2.5" HDD from SLS...
brands like seagate, hitachi, maxtor...
and fit into my dell 640m....
which HDD would u recommend?

Hi Diavonex brudder...
Thanks for the pics. I know how to open it.
The reason for posting in this thread is because during the IT Fair, one of the salesman was telling me that 2.5" HDD they are selling might not be compatible
with dell and that some components sold outside cant fit into dell laptops.
Hence I did not buy the 2.5" HDD from them. So does the 2.5" SATA HDD sold in SLS is able to fit into my 640m?
Anyway, any recommendation for HDD brand?

There's nothing special about the HDD inside your DELL.

Just find out whether it's PATA or SATA before you buy your new HDD.

From Dell / Getronics after warranty lapse?
That is expensive even though only 12.1" WXGA gloss panel.
Test and make sure the problem does not return though.

$500 to buy 1 year wty, they fixed it, but now the media button is not working.
