considering a dell streak? Think Twice~!
My Dell Streak was running for barely 5 months and I cant charge it last night. Went down to their service centre at Funan (btw their service centres has more cashiers than service counters, so confident of their products?).
Bruce See (in-charge) and Celine Marie told me the port on my Dell Streak is spoiled and I will have to pay $125 for a one-to-one exchange. Nope, i got the figure correct. Its a whopping $125 bucks for a port~!
They told me it is a user-induced damage and I will have to bear the costs, not the fault on Dell. Many users have paid for it and that management has already known of this user issue. Sorry, I thought user induced damage will only be deliberate damage to the set? How come this issue is so common?
Did i throw the phone against the wall? NO! Will any users be so stupid enough to take a pen and poke at it? oh wait, using the original cable and charge is known as user induced damage? I swear I followed according to the manual. They told me they wont know because it is used on our part.
I still remember I used a Sony Ericsson KE750i in my JC days and a couple of us had the same port connectivity problems. It was exchanged or repaired on the spot - no questions asked. Thats what I call customer service.
I am still looking for their email address and shooting an email down. All else fails, they can expect a letter in ST Forum soon.
Totally absurd regulation from Dell.
one more point to add..... always OFF THE Charger before connect and disconnect the phone...... good practice ..I think this is really user-induced damaged. As you have used it for a few months as you said. So it is not a manufacturer fault. It might be caused where you force the cable into the dock or pull out the cable with force. See whether got any mobile shop can fix it at a cheaper price. I only think that the dock doesn't need to cost $125 for it to be fix.

I dont charge using PC ............ USB charger is every now .... and data cable is available easliy .... so I have one at home one at office and one in bag with a spare small charger for travelling .....I dont think you shut down the computer before disconnecting the phone if you use the computer to charge ??
If the terms & conditions specify what they cover as warranty & what they dun, we customers would have to follow. From ur description, it does seem like user-induced to me unless the port was spoilt on arrival.
Just to be fair, I was the customer waiting behind u yesterday - to repair my Streak as well. Though not sure what you were agitated then, but your behavior was quite uncalled for especially when u were raising your voice & sprouting strong words every now & then....From the 15mins I stood waiting, the 3 CSOs behind the table were still responding to u in a nice tone. It's quite amusing though to hear u citing the examples of Samsung, SE etc to the CSOs, when they were just...well CSOs....
