This is a standard feature (DVR) found in most STB. Just take note that IMDA approved one have copy-protection, meaning recording cannot be play on PC only on the STB itself.

out of the box

time to update, it's v2.1 now...

there is OTA updates as well, but i guess IMDA never spring for OTA enabled box :s13:

Hopefully the download from NMS site is the latest version, tried it before in the past but it turn out to be the same one as what I had!

Not IMDA job to update end-user equipment, even if they really want to implement OTA, it should be Mediacorp job.

This box has no OTA capabilities, it's just firmware options from other boxes running better hardware.

well, at least they did update the firmware when they make new batch order.

V2.1 is the latest one i downloaded from their website, and my box is >180818

you should check... if their >180818 is still V1.3 then something is wrong.

i wonder where all the singapore hackers are at and if there is a custom firmware for this box, that defeats the USB protection so shows can be watched on PC

Should have leh, refer to manual page 10, Firmware Upgrade (via USB or OTA). Maybe the newer one (> 180818) is removed.

In the past (last yr), there is only one firmware file available for download and no mention of serial number as well.

That's why I am still using cheap PRC made STB, less problem and no such protection crap. The NMS is just servicing as backup unit and since it's free.

That shouldnt be much of a problem, will be watching on the STB itself anyway

The living room was using the one provided but it just died on me so im looking for a better alternative for my mum.

warranty? exchange? this should not be an out of pocket expense

weird, now my box only works on an older 1-hdmi tv, now the 2-hdmi tv which i flashed the update on is "no signal" using HDMI cable out of box.

OTA = Over The Air, meaning STB scan the broadcast signal for new firmware upgrade.

Even my cheap K2/K3 STB has this feature.

For sw version 1.2, the Firmware Upgrade (Via USB) and Safely remove USB device
is gray off. Who can upgrade FW via USB?

Just found out that the free STB deadline has been extended so I am eligible to get a box now.

Question: do I go for the NewMedia box or opt for the voucher and get the Draco instead?
What's the difference between the DSC250 and ANT900 antennas for the Draco?
