从前是养儿防老, 现在是养儿烦恼 says it all. This generation's mindset already changed. They no longer require kids to support them after their retirement. Due to high COL and housing they also don't wants to still support them or help them acquire house after they retired. Also everyone might have their unique situations? Just my thought.

Think in the west, they just throw out the kids once kids go to college or reach adulthood. Many tend also don't want to stay in their small town, want to go out see the world, stay in city.

Its a matter of education. What values parent pass to kids. Which think local nowadays tend lack of.

Knew of some the kids from young already inculcate and prepare their kids to be independent. Once reach young adult will encourage their kids to take up part time job to experience work life and society. Not school holiday stay home nuah and leech on parent. Also prep them to work for their own keep. Especially if they want to further study, won't be able to support them all the way.
