My father has alzheimer's so I help him collect all his cans and rinse them (else they attract ants / roaches) and bring them to the super rare and elusive BCRS machines, and having to use ezlink or paylah which are both so inconvenient.

I wonder where this guy stays, that he cannot find BCRS machine. Maybe landed property

And if you noticed, there are groups of senior citizens going around dumpster diving for old newspaper, cardboard packaging for shopee/amazon/Lazada deliveries, cut them up nicely and deposit into recycle bins to accumulate points for NTUC vouchers in some neighbourhoods that have this facility. Need to earn 1000 points to get a $10 NTUC voucher.

In Singapore, as long as you are willing to work, you won't starve. So says some boomer.

My point was about whether finding & collecting bottles is worth the time spent, not whether people who collect them deserve to earn money. Don't conflate the two.

Accumulation is power, but accumulation takes time too lei. The question is whether the time and effort required are worth the amount accumulated. There's a difference between supplementary income and building wealth.

Introduce this bottle tax. Rich people can afford to buy drinks and throw away, don't even bother to go machine claim refund.
Seeing many low income ppl benefit from this, bring large bags of recyclables to the machine and earn the cash.
Is this a form of wealth redistribution?

Unless people give bottles to them, getting 1000 dollars a month is very very very difficult

this is a really dumb initiative and all of us know that it wouldn't work in land scarce Singapore where it might not be feasible to have bottle depots all around Singapore. You end up with another set of problems.

IMO, it is to stop parallel import drinks and allow only locally produced drinks to be sold. Protectionism in the guise of recycling.

because it will turn off foreign investors when they see all the poor on the streets digging the rubbish bin .... one bin dig few times an hour like mainland china

The irony is, most of the drinks are imported from overseas. And the 10c mark makes it legit to be sold here.

What consumers believe is that this 10c should be reflected in the nett cost but distributors and sellers are made to believe that it is a form of tax that is not collected by them.

After all, this is a gahmen initiative.

Probably not housing estate bah. Should be quite common in housing estate. Some even below housing block.

No. There is no policy that says rich people are restricted from participating this programme. Or restricted by income and asset value.
It is more of a personal choice.

Say fast food pay 6 dollar an hour. Which means to be on par need to collect 1 bottle per minute.

If anything it feels like it will needlessly waste productive time.

there is also the case that people dig out all the trash from the bins for cans/btls but they didn't bother to put it back as well.
this also create more pest and risk to people specially kids

No create problems how to come out with solutions to the problems created to show that got do work, worth the multi millions paycheck.

And then you had to thank them for solving the problems they created.
