I wish Ikea has some other tables like the jerker. I'm also looking for a table that is something like that.

Computer chair I think those wire mesh one are good for the back (if you get a good one). Currently using one (bought for abt $300) which is quite good, though I'm not sure where to get cos my mum ordered from those specialised shops.

As for table, I've been using GALANT for about 8 years now and it's really lasting. And the wood is natural colour, not painted on so it won't peel off.

I am also using Ikea Galant table. Truly solid, but expensive.

Had some spare time so decided to try out that mini DIY monitor shelf.

Bought the shelf top for $4. Measurements 590x240x15mm. Ekby Laviva.
IMG_0430.jpg

Legs are very sturdy, kinda over kill. Can go for something thinner and cheaper. Capita Legs. 160-170mm. Diameter 25mm, base diameter 40mm. (there's a 10mm plastic washer for that extra lift.)
IMG_0425.jpg

Here are the base mounts with the 10mm plastic washers. Yup, overkill.
IMG_0426.jpg

Mounting can be done easily with a philips head screwdriver. Do not that the screws given are 15mm long 3mm screws which will go through the Ekby Laviva, which is 15mm thick. So do note to use shorter screws. I used 10mm self threading 4mm screws.

Fixing up the legs..

And finish product.

Total expenditure:
Shelf board $4
Legs $10
Screws $1.60
Rubber base $3

Tota: $15.90

The cons of this is that the legs are not rubber based. You can purchase those at a hardware stores for around $5 per packet of 4 (40mm diameter rubber). Improvements would be using a less expensive leg, though of course this depends on how big the shelf you are gonna make. For longer solutions, like for 3 monitor shelves you can use the Capita legs (x6, 2 for center support) with a thicker (probably 25-30mm thick) board.

Just thought of sharing due to free time. :)

Nice DIY. What is the shelf board made of? Particleboard?

Yup. Forgot to mention, don't over tightened the screws on these kinda boards as the created threads might be weakened the harder you tightened. Stop once the screws touches the surface of the base mount.

Why do you need to have a monitor stand? it seems to position the monitor higher than the ideal viewing height. unless your chair is rather high, but then that will mean you are reaching too low for your keyboard.

My table is at 700mm in height, chair height is at 450mm non adjustable standard dining chair, and if i place the monitor on the table i'll be looking downwards. Center screen is now in my horizontal line of sight. Before this I was using a shoebox. :o

your eye level should be at the top end of the monitor, not the middle of it. this way you have to look slightly downwards at the monitor, which is the ideal ergonomic position.

Don't really find it comfortable though and I find it awkward, especially with the monitor stand tilting the monitor downwards, especially when gaming with a wheel. Plus the wheel will obstruct my view too. :slant:
