1. Is it worth it to upgrade mb to Asus Tuf gaming B550M Plus WiFi?
for a 5600g, i don't think so, unless u like the looks of the board. if u just want a b550 board, u could save some money by going for the asrock b550m wifi se, which is probably a better pick over the asus prime. realistically, id suggest picking up a cheap used b450 instead as the main selling point of b550 is pcie gen4 but the 5600g only supports gen3. if u prefer brand new, an a520 board will do the job well enough for cheaper too.
2. Is it worth swapping to Samsung 980 ssd for the same price?
for the same price, id go with the 970 evo for its proven track record and dram.
3. Any issues with this rig?
id also replace the s12iii, it's not a very good unit and is quite old at this point.

Tks @Jrwong and @NightRaven49 for your advice.

I was initially thinking of getting B550M for future upgrades. May now go for A520M + Ryzen 5600g + Kingston 32GB ram + Samsung evo 970 combi. My PSU is still in warranty, will upgrade at a later time 😊

If you willing to budget around $650 can get B550 tomahawk + ryzen 5600 $350 carousell bundle add in second hand gtx 1650 super 100-150 = 450-500 150 buy ram and nvme.

Tks @jrwong84. My previous cheapo rigs were on int graphics card and served my needs well. Only now when using lightworks for vid editing the program keeps shutting down, hence looking to upgrade 😂 Maybe I'll go with 5600g first and upgrade to a better discrete GPU when I saved up for it.

Any recommendations if i want to get 144hz monitor and also possibly play Elden Ring at max setting - what kind of pc build should i be looking at? I don't always chase the latest AAA game - mainly dota and cs

Thinking should i go for aftershock or DIY (although i'm also skeptical about aftershock myself but the convience is too good though)

elden ring is capped at 60fps without mods, and dota and cs arent especially hard to run. if u are targeting 1440p and below, the value gaming pc reco is enough.

Hi all

Looking to build 2 PCs for different purposes/person

Gaming
Budget 1.2k(Without monitor)

Play current games with high FPS (Overwatch/CS2.0/LoL)
Able to play upcoming games with acceptable FPS

Productivity
Budget 1.4-1.8k(Without monitor)

Play current games adequately (Dota2/Diablo4/Elden)
Able to support multiple VMs and gaming at the same time as well.

Advice very much appreciated. Thanks!

Hi everyone need some advices for PSU. can recommend which PSU i should get to replace my old setup? The current setup hasnt been powered on for 2 mths plus, then i had to power it on eventually. which resulted in a loud bang and sparks from the PSU, which tripped the ELCB.

specs as follows as far as i can remember
intel 4570
gigabyte GA-H97N-WIFI
msi r9 380
2x8gb ddr3 ram
superflower 650w psu (replaced with seasonic 520w due to booting issues)
samsung 250gb ssd

should i just get a basic fsp 550w bronze or better to spend extra like superflower legion 650w? but i think there aint stocks on shopee.

quite ambiguous, what resolutions are both pcs gaming at? how much fps is high fps and how good is acceptable/adequate?

if ur doing light tasks the fsp unit should be ok. i would go for a better unit like the superflower if i game often on it and have no plans to upgrade soon.
but i think there aint stocks on shopee.
tiagong the 650w is not always in stock, though pckaki in sls does have the 750w model for a very slightly cheaper price @ $102 (on carou, though today shopee 15/10 sale matches that).

thanks nightraven,

i doubt it will be an upgrade, most likely a overhaul or a portable windows console like those lenovo legion go, rog ally kind of to replace the current. for now is just attempting to revive the machine for daily uses.

despite wanting to game desperately, i find myself losing interest very quickly.

understood on your recommendations and todays sale. will try to decide soon to chance on the offer.

Looking for this pc to last me at around the next 5 years.

Let's say my budget is around 1.5 to 1.8 - although i don't really play aaa games all the time but i like to be able to play if i want to - is there any build i can work with in between the enthu and mid range?

Meanwhile is there any decent monitors that has 1440p x 144hz that can recommend?

the enthusiast rig reco in the first post is sufficient for even 4k ultra gaming, and should last for quite a while. u can just fit it in a 1.8k budget if u get a cheaper ssd and case and skip the 3rd party cooler.

they had the deal on their price list in sept, now no more. ive updated the recommendations in the first post (which people have been quoting) to reflect this. u can maybe try to find similar deals on carou (like what jrwong mentioned), since I do remember seeing a few places running the same combo but at slightly different prices.

that said, quite a few prices have gone up in the latest revision, especially ram and ssd prices :(

I managed to dig out an aging PSU that managed to boot up my system. However it is still plagued with intermittent display issues during usage (i.e. display turns blank suddenly, and needing to force restart, or unable to boot up with discrete graphic card)

Looking for any advises and recommendation. I lost touch to technology for some time. Reading the first post of build recommendations, I'm contemplating between full rig overhaul or mini pc or portable windows console (i.e. lenovo legion go). May i know if PCI-e Gen 5 is it worth spending extra on them? including Ryzen 5000 vs 7000 or likewise DDR4 vs DDR5?

High FPS, = 100 n above.
Acceptable/Adequate = Medium settings will do.

Resolutions wise, i guess a 24-27 inch monitor will do.

at the moment in my own view no pcie gen 5 is not there yet
what is ur current set up?
if u are building a brand new pc better to look at am5 and intel gen 13 and ddr 5
but if u are currently on am4 its still very usable at the moment

as far as i can remember, its a mix and match of old parts because of intermittent issues
intel 4570 (replaced with 4460)
gigabyte GA-H97N-WIFI
msi r9 380 (RMA'ed from R9 280x)
kingston 2x8gb ddr3 ram
(seasonic 520w cannot power up, superflower 600w psu had loud bangs and sparks during operation, replaced with old spare superflower 550w, newly bought replacement not yet opened from plastic seal)
samsung 250gb ssd (still got a couple ssds lying around unsure if still fit for use)

So may i presume pci-e gen 5 is more of future proofing?
based on past experiences, my builds are usually one-off, seldom nor hardly upgrade. Unless something fails and in need of replacement.
