i set static ip on the dns323

Pls state your current way of connecting the DNS-323 like what MarineX mention. Else we really don't know how to assist you. Different way of connection required different setup procedures.

Pls also state the type of connection used.

Example of my current setup

DNS-323 ---- Via LAN PORT to ----> PC ----- Via Wifi to -----> Router

Just found a new firmware on the UK ftp server:

ftp://ftp.dlink.co.uk/dns_nas/DNS-323/DNS-323_108.zip

Release notes are included in the package.

I'll give it a try

Edit: Add-Ons and Packages are also there:

ftp://ftp.dlink.com/Multimedia/dns323/Beta/Apps/

Have tried this firmware wif the NFS addon seems to slow down the NAS and the NFS seems to be broken cannot add to ESX1 4 storage.

Hope this is early beta version as it seems unstable and downgrading it back to firmware v1.07 will corrupt the config :(

Faster transfers with Windows 7

Using DNS-323 for about a year now.

Upgraded to Windows 7 recently. When I was using Vista, transfer rate was about 4 MB/s. Under Windows 7, it jumped to 10-11 MB/s, which is closer to the 100Mbit/s connection that I am using.

Anyone know why it is so slow under Vista, and faster under Windows 7?

i bought dns 323 recently, setup on my new iMAC with latest Snow leopard OS. When connecting to iPhoto9 seems slow, the spinning wheel comes on quite frequently. if i connect to internal harddisk or external USB, it's much faster... not sure what seems to be problem...can any1 help? If i do file transfers the speed is sometimes on par with external usb, theoretically it shld be faster...

Hi,

Got some queries on the operation of DNS323.

I have never been able to configure my DNS using the ESU application that comes with it, thus, not sure whether my DNS is configured properly.

1. How would i know that my DNS formatted both the harddisks?
2. How would i know that it is operating in RAID1, as configured?
3. I can only see volume 1 in the DNS. is it correct under RAID1?
4. I had mapped the volume 1 but noticed that reading from the DNS is very slow. (pictures worth about 80gb) via wired or wireless.

Anything wrong with my configuration?

The DNS is connected to 2WIRE modem with 2x500GB HDD configured as RAID1.

Thanks.

I have a problem that I cannot resolve for the past week. I'm not too familiar with NAS setup btw.
I have a DNS-323 in my living area connected to my bedroom PC via homeplug.
Everything was working fine till recently.
When I run ESU, it cant detect the NAS at all but Windows Explorer is able to!
I can still do copy/paste via explorer but not FTP. The ESU remains blank even after repeated refresh.
The NAS is mapped but ESU cant detect. Any help on this? Thanks!

Current setup:
NAS (Living Rm)---> HomePlug (LAN cable to HP) ---> Homeplug---> Bedroom Router---> Bedroom PC (Win7)

my bt is very fast. using 1.06fw, latest transmission. DL maxed out my bandwidth, and i got to restrict the bandwidth usage if not i cannot even surf net.

Thanks.

1) when it is empty?
2) go to ur web admin of the nas under tools->raid
3) RAID 1 only see 1 volume
4) 80GB of data of coz slow ma. Don't forget this is over network, which is 100mbps for 2wire. furthermore the 2wire transfer speed is lousy, maybe only 60% (100mbps) throughput for wired, 25% (54mbps)throughput for wireless.

btw what is ESU huh? i assume it is ftp?
enable ur ftp server on the NAS, and set the user's permission.
windows explorer is using samba, which is configured under advanced->network access.

looks like I finally found the root-cause.....just got email from my NAS that "left hard drive failed"...Tried to reformat but unsuccessful.
Since it's still under warranty, I may get it replaced by Seagate.
