Ok. Will try again tonight. I'm on SingNet.
singnet no blocking of ports, unless you using mobile broadband then you can forget about port forwarding

1. on your router, forward port 80 to your DNS323
2. go to http://whatismyip.com/
3. call your friend and ask him to type in the ip from whatismyip into his IE

make sure your modem is not a router, else you need to double forward

Hey all, got a few questions here regarding the DNS-323 before I get it. I'm kinda new to such things, and I browsed through the thread for some of my queries, but it's really long so pardon me if I'm re-asking some things, just really need to confirm. Thanks!

1) I intend to install a 320GB and 160GB HDD into the DNS-323. Is it possible to split the 320GB into two equal partitions and only mirror one of them on the 160GB with RAID1, then use the other partition for separate storage?

2) I have to format both HDDs before setting RAID1 izzit? Also, if in the future I decide not to use RAID scheme anymore, do I have to do any formatting or anything?

3) I read earlier in the thread some people were hesitant on upgrading firmware to 1.4 or something cause of the hassle involved in backing up their data due to having to format. Did I misinterpret or do we really have to reformat everytime we upgrade firmware on this?

Hope smoeone can help me out here, thanks!

I'm using DSL-G604T. I have problem forwarding port using IE7 on Vista os. Every time I do a port forward, it's not added into the virtual server list. Firefox 3.0 was having the same problem. I guess it's a compatibility problem. Will try to run live linux and hope I can add a virtual server into my DSL-G604T.

Hello everybody, I'm new in this Forum. I successfull manage my dns323 via web

1) first and very important : you have to give to dns323 static ip address (ex. 192.168.1.4)

2) on your router: you have to portforward to 192.168.1.4 and settle ext. port 8082 and int. port 80 as read in previous posts : here you find how to do it for your router
http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Dlink/DSL-G604T/

3)in order to access to web management you have to know your internet ip : so you have to subcribe a free dns service example dyndns.org: they will give you a host name.. after that you have to settle this host name inside your router or inside dns323

If you've read through this thread, you'll find that this bug is already known to all and we're still waiting for a firmware that fixes this issue. Instead of waiting for a firmware, why not give Transmission + Clutch (for downloading BT) a try? The instructions are quite clearly discussed in this thread already. The settings will also not be lost after you reboot your DNS-323. :)

Firstly a big thanks to Shadowandy and others for their guides for installing Transmission and Clutch.

My install last night was more or less a copy and paste job from the guide to the telnet session on the DNS-323.

Notes on a couple of issues I had after the install and their resolutions.

Problem;
Clutch reporting Transmission is not running when the 'ps' command from the telnet session clearly shows it is

Solution;
Sockets file. Clutch did not know where to check to verify Transmission was running. I had mistakenly put the HD_a4 line in for the DNS-323 rather than the HD_a2. Corrected the line and this problem was sorted.

Problem;
'Destination directory does not exist' reported by Clutch after adding first torrents.

Solution;
Check under preferences in Clutch (bottom left corner of web page star like symbol) for the configured download directory. The default directory did not exist in my install. Changing it to an existing directory does not fix the issue. You need to remove the torrents in Clutch then telnet to the DNS and cd to /mnt/HD_a2/.transmission/torrents then remove all the added torrent files, do the same for /mnt/HD_a2/.transmission/resume. Change the path to somewhere that exists and is writable (chmod 777 [directory name] should work) in the Clutch preferences web page. Re add the torrents using Clutch and it will then work.

Problem;
Clutch reporting 'connection refused in line 103 of XXXXXX.php' or something to that effect when refreshing.

Solution;
This occured when playing around with the files to try and resolve the previous problem. It seems that it was caused by the Transmission daemon dying (probabily due to my playing with files). It seems the PHP does not catch the error cleanly and so just reports a code error if Transmission cannot be connected for a refresh. Restarting Transmission corrected the issue.

Both Transmission and Clutch are now running fine for me and so much better than the FW 1.5 torrent client. A quick glance this morning had Clutch reporting a download rate of just under 500Kb/s (10Kb/s upload limited). Transmission is using the default installation port (i.e. unchanged by me after the install) which I believe is not a default torrent client port. The torrent client from FW 1.5 was having problems reaching 30Kb/s. I am on a Singtel 8Mb unlimited line.

I now just need to find a streaming PnP AV server which will work with the XBox 360 as the current compiled version of uStream which worked fine with ffp 0.4 will not work wih ffp 0.5.

Any suggestions for streaming to XBox 360 ?

MediaTomb does not and will not in the short term suport the XBox 360 going by the dev discussion I read on their forums last night :-(.

Whilst I could probably recompile the source myself, it would be a lot of work to get the NAS in the condition required in order to do so. Not sure I have that free time at the moment.

Maybe I will take a look at setting up the tool chain etc as at this point is seems the only way to get something free that works for streaming for the 360.

Cheers

some reported TwonkyMedia working, 1.05 works also

Yeah, I understand Twonky should work but costs.

The uPnP AV server with FW 1.05 does not work streaming to the XBox for me. The XBox can connect but it will not display the correct files in the correct places and will not play most the files even when I know they played fine with uShare. It is of course possible that I am doing something wrong but I can see no obvious mistakes. I would be very interested to hear if anyone has got this working with FW 1.05

Thanks

Haven't tried XBox360 (or are u referring to first gen XBox?) streaming with 1.05 yet, but can confirm that it didn't work in previous firmware versions.

If I'm not wrong, XBox360 streaming is different from the typical uPnP AV streaming. Btw, OT abit, anyone can confirm if uPnP AV works with PS3?

Meanwhile, do try out Twonky - I believe there was a version which did not disable itself after the trial period.

it has been reported that ushare can stream to xbox360. And best of all, ushare has been compiled to run on the DNS-323
