Hi All.

May i check what is the transfer speed of a NAS? deciding to get a normal USB2.0/FW400 external NDD or the D-Link DNS313.

dns-313 is 480mbps if u connect using usb which is about the same if u compare to external usb storage

just a quick question, will i be able to use my previous IDE hdd for the DNS323 using IDE to sata2 convertors?

if its able to do so, den i am able to run Raid0 and combine as a single volume drive right?

unless u going to dismantle dns-323 which will void ur warranty, else i think its hard for u to use the convertor

yeh i haven seen the actual dns323 so i am nt sure if that will work..

wont work as you wont be able to close it after doing that. that is if the sata connectors somehow end up in alignment which i am not so optimistic about.

shut down, take out either 1 hdd and see

repeat for the other hdd

Hmm, sounds logical. I did tried to use SSH but I think it can't work lol

shut down take 1 out den boot up and access using network neighbourhood to see if volume 1 with file there

repeat for 2nd hdd

guess what....I used raid 1 the day i bought it....then after reading how potentially unreliable the RAID 1 in dns-323 is...i decided to split them up.

Now running cron every night to sync the two disks instead.

Using rsync. Cron is like timer.

I was trying to test RAID 1....plug out left drive....format to NTFS.....then plug in... the bugger just format it then say raid 1 sync completed but i felt something was amiss. remove right drive and realised the one i just placed in was empty.

then read online like lots of ppl don't trust the raid 1. so might as well try something else...

at least if there is accidental deletion i can retrieve it back within the day.

have to use telnet to set up rsync and the cron. Means every night for example the cron will run rsync to backup.
