1) ext2/3fs driver
2) Most probably DNS-323. But I tested migrating hard disk to DNS-343 and it works
3) 1.06 has got UPS monitoring (through its usb port) if i remember correctly. I think the DNS-323 will initiate a shutdown if UPS is low on power.

wah so good...

i migrated over and it isnt working for me.. thus have to format it. sad.

I have one big problem.
I manage to connect WD Mybook to the DNS323.
I can copy and transfer file.
In the middle of file transfer , then got error message saying the source is unavailable. Then have to redo cut and paste the file again. Then again problem happen cannot detect the hard disk after transfer the file sometime.
What happen ? Anyone encounter before ? Or the usb.ko file unstable ?

Something you got to solve on your own. I don't face such problem. Perhaps you can google around

Thanks for the heads up!

I see. DNS-323 is running of linux file system. I got zero knowledge on NAS and Linux. My main concern is when the DNS-323 becomes faulty or needs to be replaced somewhere down the road, I can simply plug one of the raid1 pair to a windows based system to read the data.

A windows based raid1 pair can be simply unplug and read separately. So I assume Linux ext2/3 fs raid1 can also do the same so long as one of the windows based ext2/3 drivers is installed?

2) Can the data be read if the HDD is installed onto another brand of enclosure or must use back DNS-323?

2) Most probably DNS-323. But I tested migrating hard disk to DNS-343 and it works

Wow! :s31: Bro Andy. Your reply to bro larlee qns 2 makes me think twice about getting the DNS-323 as I was asking the similar qns. I've to think twice about getting it as I don't wanna be dependent on specific hardware for retrieving data. Does this dependency applies to all brand of NAS or do you have other recommendation that does not have such hardware dependency, preferably with windows based file system.

The transfer rate is that very slow ?
Or my wireless router too slow ? I'm using Linksys WRT54G2.
Or the Ethernet too slow ? My Ethernet point is build in the mother board.
Really very very slow for me. Transfer 1 gb of file need to wait around 1 hour. :(

wireless g practical throughput is only around 20mbps while dns-323 can go up to 160mbps

I wouldn't say it is hardware dependency. Your case is different from larlee_sg's. larlee_sg wanted to migrate hard disk to another enclosure and hence it is dependent on how the enclosure partition the hard disk for usage. I have a hard disk partitioned by Netgear ReadyNAS Duo and when I plug it into my DNS-323 or DNS-343. It prompts for a format. It is the same the other way round. However, if I plug the hard disk to my computer, I can view the data and retrieve them (as they are in RAID1 or individual volume).

I have succeded in mounting my usb thumbdrive and now I'm trying to make it run even after a reboot.
Have created a script(musb.sh) in mnt/HD_a2/ffp/etc/profile.d, after a reboot, it doesn't seems to run.
If I manually run sh musb.sh, it ran find.

Any help here?
Thought by placing the script in profile.d it'll run after a reboot?

My bad...
Works now after I place in in start directory.

Another problem crops up, It doesn't seems to like copying large files to the thumbdrive.
2~300mb files is ok but once I copy a 700mb+ files, explorer will say it cannot find the directory after copying it halfway through.
Hmmmmm........ Any idea?
