hey Gribber , thanks ! that was really a great help ! one more thing. dns 323 doesnt have any surveillance solution right?
I upgraded one of my hard disk in the dns-323
I dunno but you only upgraded one of the disk? I think both disks need to be of the same capacity unless you are using Hybrid RAID (SHR) from Synology.
Hmm...i need the new hdd to sync with my data before replacing the other old hdd. if i'll to replace both with new, how would the data be transferred? via another hdd enclosure?

Hi,
Anyone tried this firmware?
https://sites.google.com/site/altfirmware/
I install it and overwrite the stock firmware.
Tested file transfer and it manage to hit 16MB/s without jumbo frame.
So much better than stock 1.08, 1.09 and 1.10 where i only get 6MB/s
Question is does anyone encounter any issues?
is it possible to overwrite stock rom back?ALT-F is well tested on this box, too bad it is not supported on DNS-320.![]()

How do I rebuild a RAID-1 array if one of my hard drives has failed?
If the drives in a DNS-323 were formatted asRAID-1, it is possible to recover from a singlehard drive failure by replacing the faulty drive and letting theDNS-323 rebuild the array.
To ensure this procedure succeeds, we recommend following thesteps given below:
power down the DNS-323 before removing the faultydrive
do NOT turn the DNS-323 back on again until a replacement drive has been installed; this can lead to data lossunder certain circumstances
make sure the replacement drive is either new and has never been formatted, or has only been used in Windows or Mac computers using their native
filesystems (NTFS, FAT32, HFS ). If it has previously been formatted as part of a DNS-323RAID-1 array, this may cause rebuilding the array to fail
install the replacement drive and power up the DNS-323
once the DNS-323 is running, log in to the web interface. You will be prompted to format the replacement drive, and the DNS-323will restart once this is complete
after restarting, the DNS-323 will start syncronising the disks and rebuilding the array. Depending on size and usage of the disks, this may take several hours to complete. It is possible to use the DNS-323 while this is going on, but it may further delay the process
You can check the current status of the RAID-1 array on the status page; it will show either a percentage indicating how far it has progressed or Complete after it has finished.
Yup I did it before. Works fine.

Oppss sorry never read properly. You can pull out the good drive, reset the nas to standard mode. Put in a hdd that u wanna use for the backup, then plug in the good drive again...the nas should be able to read the good drive.
BUT I highly recommend that you just backup the data to an external source. THIS IS THE SAFEST WAY!![]()
