you can always get a ip cam that supports FTP record/sd card. then transfer into your nas manually or script. Your call :)

saw that you are selling your NAS off so i believe the questionnaire should stop hereafter.

gribber ; yea . i was selling it cos i was like the cam that i purchased (foscam 8910w) doesn't seem to be able to record to my nas . However , i figured out that it was able to take pictures on motion detection. so decided not to sell after all.

Anyway, pertaining to my NAS ftp, i was able to configure the ftp to connect via another computer on the home network but how do i configure a computer outside my home network to ftp to the NAS ? just a guess is it via dyndns? as mine's dynamic ip.

I upgraded one of my hard disk in the dns-323 yesterday and the system recommend reformat and rebuild. After the whole process completes, I found out that all my data in the old hard disk were gone...

Can anyone advise what went wrong? I use RAID 1 and I'm still holding to the other hard disk that I took out.

TIA

According to this video, replacing drive in RAID-1 configuration seem quite straightforward.

yup, followed the steps. The only diff is that I upgraded my HDD from 500GB to 2TB. I took out my left hdd and replace it with the new hdd. Followed the steps in the video and it identified by right hdd as raid 1 and the new hdd as JBOD. It asked to rebuild and next moment, it reformatted the hdd and all my data is gone.

Still have the hdd that I took out.

I dunno but you only upgraded one of the disk? I think both disks need to be of the same capacity unless you are using Hybrid RAID (SHR) from Synology.

Hmm...i need the new hdd to sync with my data before replacing the other old hdd. if i'll to replace both with new, how would the data be transferred? via another hdd enclosure?

Hi,
Anyone tried this firmware?
https://sites.google.com/site/altfirmware/
I install it and overwrite the stock firmware.
Tested file transfer and it manage to hit 16MB/s without jumbo frame.
So much better than stock 1.08, 1.09 and 1.10 where i only get 6MB/s

Question is does anyone encounter any issues?

ALT-F is well tested on this box, too bad it is not supported on DNS-320. :(

Hello all. I cannot map the drive after changing to Win8. Use to be able to see like another pc and files can just be sent and copied from it.
Now even using the map utility also prompt unable to map drive.
Any tips guys?

Can anyone recommend a UPS for the DNS-323?

I'm looking for one that can shutdown the DNS-323 gracefully when there's a power shutdown.

Or trigger an email to inform of a power shutdown so that I can remote shutdown or make a trip back home to check.

Is there such a thing?

I am running a dns323 with 2x 1.5tb on raid 1...
Now the volume is degraded and i know which hdd is problematic...
Can i just remove the problematic hdd and still read the good hdd?

I need to back up some data from the current volume...

Yup I did it before. Works fine.

Here's instructions from Dlink:

How do I rebuild a RAID-1 array if one of my hard drives has failed?

If the drives in a DNS-323 were formatted asRAID-1, it is possible to recover from a singlehard drive failure by replacing the faulty drive and letting theDNS-323 rebuild the array.

To ensure this procedure succeeds, we recommend following thesteps given below:

power down the DNS-323 before removing the faultydrive

do NOT turn the DNS-323 back on again until a replacement drive has been installed; this can lead to data lossunder certain circumstances

make sure the replacement drive is either new and has never been formatted, or has only been used in Windows or Mac computers using their native
filesystems (NTFS, FAT32, HFS ). If it has previously been formatted as part of a DNS-323RAID-1 array, this may cause rebuilding the array to fail
install the replacement drive and power up the DNS-323
once the DNS-323 is running, log in to the web interface. You will be prompted to format the replacement drive, and the DNS-323will restart once this is complete

after restarting, the DNS-323 will start syncronising the disks and rebuilding the array. Depending on size and usage of the disks, this may take several hours to complete. It is possible to use the DNS-323 while this is going on, but it may further delay the process

You can check the current status of the RAID-1 array on the status page; it will show either a percentage indicating how far it has progressed or Complete after it has finished.

How do I rebuild a RAID-1 array if one of my hard drives has failed? | D-Link UK

Oppss sorry never read properly. You can pull out the good drive, reset the nas to standard mode. Put in a hdd that u wanna use for the backup, then plug in the good drive again...the nas should be able to read the good drive.

BUT I highly recommend that you just backup the data to an external source. THIS IS THE SAFEST WAY! :)

Can I take out both drives and access the NAS to reset it? Then put back the drives and access them as JBOD?

I just gotten another NAS to back up all the needed info from my 323....
