Do I really need a cpu cooler? What about case fans?

These are my current specs:

MSI B150M Bazooka LGA 1151 mATX
Phanteks P400s mid tower
i5-6500
Palit GTX 970

Since I can't actually overclock my i5-6500, do I really need a third party CPU cooler? My temps usually average mid 70 degrees.

And if I do, any good CPU coolers to recommend that would fit nicely on a mATX mobo?

That should be something like full load. Like playing max settings Overwatch or MGSV for 3 hours or so.

Idle temps is anywhere from 30-40 degrees. Btw you referring to http://list.qoo10.sg/item/COOLERMAS...OOLING-FAN-SUPPORT/444451776#customerTabWrap1 is it? Cheers

a typical 212x can bring the temps down to low 60s depending on the casing. i still consider a worthwhile investment for only $50+ and it last a long long time. but generally speaking yr load temps are fine.

can also consider the Cryorig M9 at only $39, which is the price of 2 case fans.

If it is 70 degrees while gaming/load, it isn't a necessity to buy an aftermarket cooler. I'd rather spend on 1 or 2 more case fans to increase airflow, especially to purge out the heat from the GTX970

dont really need, but can keep ur cpu temp lower.

can try cryorig h7/h5, comes with thermal paste included.

guesstimated load temp when playing game compare to your current stock cooler, maybe will reduced and hover around +/-64ish degree?

if this is so, its still pretty normal though, unless u are in a aircon room at the temp still above 80 den u better check the voltage or if u have mount the heatsink wrongly.

yup hyper 212 x or evo is about the same.

Thanks for the feedback. Yeah my idle temp is usually 30-40 degs. Load is usually mid 70s. Highest I've seen is maybe 78. I don't think I've ever went above 80. For whatever reason, being in an air conditioned room makes no difference!

I really don't mind spending on a good cpu cooler to future proof this rig. Another thing - I didn't even know you could buy case fans lol. Any good ones to recommend?

So the current recommendations for cpu cooler is:
Cooler Master Hyper 212X
Cryorig M9
Cryorig h7/h5

let me know if there should be others I should check up on too.

i am using the smaller CM Hyper 103 due to my casing clearance.
need to check your casing clearance height.

I am using a Cooler Master Vortex 211P for my CPU. The stock one is quite miserable, though it should be enough to cool a 65W CPU.

i second the 212x, best investment for a cpu cooler i've made, i've used better ones, but this one is decent priced, widely avail, and works solid.

i buy it because i want a peace of mind, if you know what i mean.

and regarding case fans, if can add 2 in and 1 out, would be best, slightly positive air pressure, less dust in the case.

can check out phanteks 140mm fans, quite good stuff. if you want cheaper, think others might be able to help you, i'm not sure what is good and cheap, lol.

the p400 is quite a decent case, so i think it makes sense to throw in abit more to make it work.

Use the software that comes with your motherboard to monitor temp.

thx all, think I'll go with the CM Hyper 212X since it seems to be the most value for money. Does anyone who uses it know if it comes with thermal paste?

Also, any good suggestions for case fans?

Any idea which is better - 3x 120mm vs 2x 140mm?

Also, where should I prioritize fan placement? Front top or rear? Rear can only fit 1x 120mm though
