9. Will the PDPC investigate telemarketing messages sent from overseas?

The PDPA applies in relation to a specified message sent to a Singapore telephone number where the sender is in Singapore when the message is sent or the recipient is in Singapore when the message is accessed.

Where a telemarketing message is sent from overseas and at least one of the senders is in Singapore, PDPC will investigate the complaint and take the appropriate action against the sender(s) in Singapore.

In relation to overseas senders, the PDPC will, where appropriate, work with our overseas counterparts to investigate into such cases.

guys if ur phone has the blacklist app or xiaomi phones usually have the app in the native system.

you can actually block the SMSes using this keywords.

I just changed me and my dad's phone to xiaomi series. :D

now with this blacklist filter, all SMSes with / contains these words are automatically blocked

I've registered for the DNC a few months back but ocsssionally I still receive SMS from money lenders mostly.

Sent an email to DNC asking for help and assistance and was told over the phone that I will have to make a police report for such issues as they are illegal money lenders. One report maybe not much effect, but if people are constantly reporting these money lenders, I'm sure the police will take more notice.

Not only that, they suggested me to head down to my telecom to report the case and get them to block all these unknown numbers so they can't send any more SMS. Not sure if that helps since money lenders usually uses unregistered number but still, better than not trying.

Hope the above solution can help those who have registered for DNC yet still receive such messages.

Never even receive any confirmation that they got my report. Just make the report, I don't think they so free call you up for more info. They probably only act on it when enough people complain about the same number.
