Great, thanks for relating your experience.

I have a question. When you activate those .2s in ceiling when you are watching say football or a normal non-dolby atmos movie off a mio box, does it make a difference?
Not really, it’s more to create a cinematic experience. The receiver can up mix a 5.1 source to 5.1.2, but a stereo source would sound almost the same.
The purpose of having a 5.1.2 setup is when there is intent to have a immersive sound effects like watching movies with such sound effects.

If you don't want to audition, No one can help you.
Just put together some five star items from What Lofi and be done.
Real hobbyists spend a lot of time to audition. Or spend a lot of money buying and selling and then buying again.
I have bought more than 30 speakers and a dozen subwoofers in my life..

All I can say is, not everyone has the time, the space, the conditions and most importantly, the support of the spouse to indulge in such a hobby.

I just want a good sound system and I do what I can.

Well it's true. Some people just put in a Sonos beam and they think it's great, nothing wrong.

I have actually decided on my 5.1s, I haven't pulled the trigger because my ID is still doing the 3D sketch-up. The 5.1 installers will then come in to inspect my place once that's done. The Atmos is the final piece of the puzzle; to get it or not.

I don't confess to be any good at this so I am leaving it to the professionals albeit at a cost.

After, I doubt i'll be changing them for awhile.

Suggest u add the ceiling wiring 1st to avoid messy works later. With wiring in placed adding ceiling speakers is easy.

I agree with you on the speakers. I originally auditioned plenty of bookshelves and floorstands 3.1 but my ID said it will destroy the look I am trying to achieve in my house. And since I am paying an exorbitant amount for the ID, I decided to take a step back and go for 5.1 satelites for now.

Maybe some years later when I am sick of the design I will bring in better front speakers.

Your ID spent so much money you say then need to follow his/her idea then what for? he or she should make your idea work instead and knowing your needs then adjust according

I build everything my own no need what ID like waste money....and i achieve what i like

No la
If you have 70k you will be able to hire someone to make it sound good.
If you are soliciting opinions for choices and you have a limited budget and don’t have time to audition then well no one can really help. After all it’s not our house or our style of music..

I watched that before think is the audio track is so-so the bass effect is not as great as the godzilla as well.....with good sub is like the godzilla walking around your home theatre....the atmos channels are mostly used in that movie as well the chopper the jets and plane and monster flying around scene are awesome although the Godzilla movie is so-so....disney should hired those audio mix guys so far all marvel's movies audio are kinda disappointing

Wow I actually auditioned the same thing. I thought Avengers was soso when compared to Gozilla.

After today's audition I thought the atmos was while good, wasn't something that I can live without. And considering that true Atmos stuff are still limited, I should be putting a hold on them.

Will get the 5.1 for now.

Yes but overall i didn't think the atmos added that much to the overall experience? I didn't really feel like i was immensed in, the bass and the sound were more prominent than the atmos. I could be wrong.

I auditioned another horror movie where the ghost was upstairs. I could hear footsteps coming from different directions which was interesting. But i personally wouldn't think I will go my way out to source out true Atmos materials for something so minor, and these sounds from above are maybe 1-2% of the entire show?

Or am I looking at this too simply? That the Atmos is more than "sound on top"?

Atmos effects are only great if you had 2 pairs front and back....right now i only using one pair for the front which i felt i lack of something.....so 2 pair become kinda ex....that's why i considering...should i upgrade my front to focal kanta 2 or Kef R11 instead as those will make more of a difference.....

I audition with 2x ceiling speakers on top which the sound person said is sufficient for my 2.5m couch to tv distance.

I personally wouldn't spend so much on the Atmos if I have a budget.

If you got do gaming then maybe it adds more value to atmos bah I tried testing playing shadow of the tomb raider it's one of those that support atmos only 14 games so far that supported that audio format....from that game in the forest i can hear the tree's leaf rattling the birds flying above and the jaguar stalking you running around on top.....it adds a more immersive feel experience in gaming
