How about the body ...important?
If for decades that photographers have been producing award winning photos, it will be a strange phenomenal that only good equipments can give you good results. Don't you think so ? If you are really good, I suppose a disposable 35mm camera will win you something if your photograph tells a story.
Having better equipments merely stretch your capabilities to produce good works in extreme conditions, equip you with more versatility managing your scenes.
Generally if you want more control over your scene, you choose a body with sufficient controls over your aperture, exposure time, shutter speeds, output format and so forth. Different lens for different scenes. Having good photograph manipulation software also give you an edge when post processing your photographs.
You probably would wanna invest in good external strobes, a sturdy tripod, such basic items. For caring of your gears, a sufficiently large dry cabinet and some cleaning pen and sensor cleaning items.
That's really about it. The rest is up to you. If you ask for my opinion, I say 40% your gear and 60% your handwork walking around, study on places worth taking pic, planning for your shot and good subjects and scenes.
