JB stall near Taman Sri Tebrau quoted $28RM for MSW. Doesn't look like MSW to me, can't see the 'star' at the base. So just walked off.

Durian 'Scam'?

Not sure if I am posting in the right place, but would like to share the experience of my neighbor, and hopefully, armed with information, we can fight against such unethical practices. What happened was this:
A young man approached my neighbor and said that he was selling durians with his brother and they usually sell at the back of our unit. He quoted a really cheap price which intrigued my neighbor. He said "Can taste first, no need to buy first." After that, the brother came up, and started chopping up some durians and asked my neighbor to taste. BUT, here's the catch - he went on slicing up a few, and in the end told my neighbor that he can't sell those that he already sliced up and there were a lot of them! In the end, he ended up buying more than S$400 worth of durians even though the price is cheap.

My neighbor did not want to buy that much but he had to. Well, he shared his misfortune by sharing the durians with us, but I hope by spreading this information, we can be better prepared against such unethical sales practice.

I talked with my neighbor and he told me he learnt his lessons:
1. Just ignore. If it's too good to be true - it's too good to be true.
2. Say in advance how many you want. If he insists on opening some for you to try, say that you're not going to buy it even if he let you try. You'll only buy the amount you want, and that's it.

Have any of you experienced the same thing before? If yes, perhaps can share your experience and how you dealt with it so we can all learn from your experience.

Cheers!

Sometimes its difficult coz those idiots know where you stay. Think the scammed guy wants less trouble, so paid up.

You're right! My neighbor didn't want too much trouble from this.

When we were talking, I did ask my neighbor why didn't he just tell him the exact amount he wants and that's the most he's willing to pay. Too bad for whatever the brothers sliced up.
My neighbor said he just want to avoid trouble and at that point when he was "hit" by the scam, he was literally shocked to the point he couldn't think straight. Which is also why I am sharing his story here in the hope that by spreading such information around, we can "counter" these unethical sellers when they strike! For me, at least now I have a "script" in mind should they come knocking on my door the next time - "Get lost!"

Don't need to be rude. Just say someone in your family allergic to durians, or having sore throat, so cannot eat durians.
