Hello

I was searching and couldn't find anything on ebike in HWZ.
Was a little surprised! So here I am starting a little interest in this area where the international forums are thriving.*

Let me just be upfront that this is going to be about DIY ebike - simple or a monster bike. Tell us what it feels like, your project, before & after pics, etc.*

Just to start the ball rolling.*
My cheapo built #1 (pics coming in a while) - wasn't sure if I'm gonna like it or not and it was an experiment.

- 48V 10Ah (50 km per charge)
- Max Speed: 50km/h
- Hub motor kit from ebay
- Donor bike: a cheap frame with steel joints and dropouts from aloeca - so much said about it's quality but an ideal candidate just because it is heavy and robust - characteristics that are ideal for ebike conversation. Doesn't hurt when it is cheap as well :)
- Electronics + Lifepo4 batteries: about $800.

Cause of the speed, this is strictly off road use in Singapore.

I have done a number of runs now and fine tunned the original battery which were very unbalanced. After balancing those china batteries I was able to get about 50km on a single charge now - very very happy with the outcome. I now even have people asking can travel from punggol to east coast - with an additional pack, traveling to orchard may even be possible!

Ebike 1 has good quality parts and avenue to scale a lot more. Why did you stop? Did someone buy from you? I have been drooling over a CA and sinewave controller for a while now.

Personally I prefer lifepo4 over lipos as I live in hdb. A safer choice.

I am doing 50km/h and recently some online sites are having phat wheels that claimed to go 100km/h. But the controller was that big which put me off as I prefer a stealthier looking bike.

Planning for a no.2 within my budget is tough but I had time on my side.

Apologies for the long exodus. Was buried under a large avalanche of work in the office.

On the good side, the no.2 ebike is up - frame is new, all parts salvaged.
Will post a pic on no.1 since that bike is officially dead just in case some authorities are trolling around.

For those who PM me - you know who you are! The batteries only lasted me 1.5 years albeit with some abuse. Will source for a better quality battery when i have a bit more budget - shipped in either via DHL or FedEx and declared as battery at custom. Singpost will never carry them.
