I have a friend who has had eczema on both her arms for years. As usual the doctor asked her to use Cetaphil and prescribed steroids for use when there is a major flare up. Of course she tried not to use the steroids too much since they have numerous serious side effect such as osteoporosis, diabetes, hypertension, etc. Good thing she was already an adult cos steroid use can also impair growth in children. Anyway, as usual they did not work and she continued to have eczema everyday.

In 2013 I went to the US. I found that many people there use simple natural bar soap with oatmeal, honey and sometimes tea tree as an effective eczema treatment. So I bought an all natural Oatmeal and Honey soap bar and gave it to her as a Christmas present to try.

On Christmas eve she stopped using Cetaphil and switched completely to the Oatmeal bar and we were both pleasantly surprised (and she was overjoyed) when her eczema reduced by 80% within a week! Seriously. It's been a life changer for her. She's now working in Denmark and my wife and I recently sent her a whole box of Oatmeal soap from Singapore for her birthday.

This is what she uses: http://www.thesoaphaven.com/help-me-choose/soap-eczema-psorasis/
(It's sometimes out of stock but you can pre-order)

Hope it also helps some of you!

Thanks for the recommendation. Will check it out

Tried both the oatmeal & Himalayan salt. The soap did nothing for me terms of my eczema.

Disappointing

The root cause is NOT a skin disease - it's an issue with the auto-immune system that causes everyday things to make the skin flare up.

So if you are merely treating the skin with cream or ointments, or through diet, you are merely alleviating the symptoms, not treating the problem.

Researchers at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai has proven that eczema is an immune-driven (autoimmune) disease.

Because the problem is INSIDE the body - doesn't it make sense that the eczema CURE would come from INSIDE the body, too? I don't mean to promote anything but I have seen my friends with 30 years of eczema recovered totally within 6 months when their auto-immune system recovered.

Can you shed some light on how your friends manage to recover from their auto-immune system ?

They switch to this special Jap brand of clothes. Pretty amazing. Their eczema us so serious one has places in her body that didn't stop bleeding for 30 yrs. She told us ladies carry makeup pouch in their bags but she carried first aid kit all her life. One time for 6 months there were no skin on her hands. After using this clothes, she recovered totally from her autoimmune system and her lesions just dried up and her skin is just like normal u can't tell she ever had eczema. Anyone interested, PM me and I can connect u up

Thyroid, lupus, eczema, etc are all auto immune probs. Can google on that.

Our immune system is supposed to defend against against intruders but instead in an autoimmune case, it over reacts and attack the body. Eg in eczema case, the person's autoimmune system attacks it's skin cells, in lupus, attacks vital organs like kidneys or heart etc, in Thyroid, attacks thyroid glands..

To 'tame' this over reactive immune system, steroids r prescribed for serious cases. Steroid simply suppresses this overreacting immune system so to stop the attack. but as we all know can u suppress yr immune system for too long? that's why pple on steroid will suffer other bad side effects. and docs r very careful not to prescribe unless cannot tahan.

Medicine is good at 'killing', but how can medicine kill the enemy which comes from yr own body immune system? so there is really no medicine for immune system, u can either just manage the symptoms like stop the itch, the inflammation etc.
To only cure is to balance ur autoimmune system. make it right again.

Yes, indeed. Eczema is an autoimmune disease, same as HSP, lupus, rheumatism etc

One of the reason that leads to auto-immune diseases could be due to leaky gut syndrome.

A gut which which suffers from chronic inflammation, and subsequently leads to autoimmunity issue

In order to reduce the leaky cut, first check if a person is on dairies, and food which has anti-inflammatory properties helps in reducing the leaky gut and balance the immune system

I have read in this article

just had a flare up after remission for a very long time.
used to be prescribed a betamethasone lotion by NSC for application over large areas (huge patch on my thigh). Does anyone remember the brand? it worked well last time, so i'm thinking of buying it OTC at pharmacy.

I've been having eczema since I was 3 years old and it's been an on-going condition ever since. Whole of my legs were affected and some parts of my arms. Scars are visible through my legs although some had already faded away. Recently it just got worst on the thigh areas.
However, I'm curious if anybody with eczema actually have a hobby of swimming? I have intention to take up swimming lessons but I'm afraid that the chlorine will flare up my skin even worse. Any advise? Anyway I can enjoy swimming and not having the risk with flaring up my skin condition?
