This GP clinic is charging specialist price.. If all other eczema treatment fails and you have deep pockets you can see Dr Yang.

Just to share i went see dr yang n yap.
Total cost $300ish. Given herbs to soak in water and bath with. Also got 2 types of cream. One to apply before shower in morning and another after shower morning n night.

My eczema was really bad with discharged all that. Skin thinning after years of steroid creams fr poly. The escema also covers big portion of both thighs and arms and scattered my bodies and shoulders.

A few days after using the usual discharged and pus dries up. 1 week later it really shows big improvement. I no longer woke up seeing all the stains on my bed.

Very big improvements. Now i stop using the herbal bath.. just the creams.

It’s kind of lengthy but I would like to vent out my experience with this disease. I’m 28 male and I used to have healthy skin until 20 September 2018. I consider myself active individual who visits the gym at least thrice a week, i am also consuming protein to support my workout. I am not obese/underweight, weighing around 66kg.

I’m not sure if eczema just happen like this, I see myself started to itch all over and scratches all over to the extend where my skin turns red and sore, the open wound on my arms weep and bleed. Went to polyclinic and the doctor did not even know my condition, gave me some steroids and no referral. Decided to try TCM at Telok Blangah thinking that this should be my last resort, but the experience there is not great. The physician did not even feel my pulse, felt like she just prescribe the standard medicine and cream. Paid 100 over dollars and left the clinic still hoping I will recover after taking the TCM medicines. Finished all her medicine and cream and damn I did not recover, as months passed I miraculously recovered by controlling my scratching. Thinking that my nightmare is done but damn, around 2 months ago the itch came back on my scalp, arms, torso, I scratched again and things didn’t went well at all, I’ve lose tremendous amount of hair, I have bald patches on my head at the moment. Went to see a random TCM at clementi, the physician is so much nicer and I felt that she’s truly concerned (she’s not related to me) she persuaded me to undergo acupuncture and advised me to change my diet as well.. I’ve been very strict to my diet now with no cold drinks, no spicy food, no beef and I’ve even tried to eliminate sugar as much as I can, however progression hasn’t been fast but I definitely felt that I’m better than before internally. At the same time I’ve gotten a referral to the skin specialist at NSC as well just to confirm if I’m suffering from eczema or psoriasis or alopecia areta but no blood test is done, doctor seemed confident that I’m suffering from eczema and gave me lots of steroid cream and pills telling me that that’s the only way, it’s chronic and i can only suppress the condition but will not recover.

I have yet to eat the pills and used the cream from NSC, was wondering if it will work better if I combined both TCM and western method. I’ve tried lots and lots of moisturizer and my current skincare is Suu balm (to relieve itch) Emu oil and vitamin d on face, body, arms and legs. I’ve got no idea on what should I apply on my scalp to relieve the itch. Oh yes I’ve also started to consume more alkaline water, felt better but I’m not sure if this is one of the reason. If anyone has any suggestion on alternative please do share so that we are able to try it out. Eczema is really a pain in the ass and I want to seek a cure to my condition. Currently waiting for my hair to grow back and my skin to recover, really a torturous process. Jiayou everyone, I hope you have your loved ones by your side to support you... and did any adult here contracted with eczema out of the blue like me?

Sorry to hear that.
Have you considered allergy test? For myself i’m 45 years old. My ezcema started a few years back. At the same time I started getting lots of allergies reactions. On doc recommendation, i went for allergies test and found that I developed allergies to seafood which is so sad because I enjoy seafood. On those rare occasions I decided to eat seafood, my eszema flared.

I have not done allergy test but I didn’t introduce new food into my diet, not sure if I’m allergy to the usual foods that I ate because I didn’t have any reaction to it for the past 27 years...
Do you use steroid creams or pills prescribed by the doctors?

Skin problems can happen anytime and thing u have never been allergic to can be a trigger all of a sudden. That's because our hormones change along our life time.
The usual culprit are usually seafood, nuts, dust and pets.
Getting an allergy test may of may not give you an answer as is just very broad based.
I would suggest avoid TCM and most house wife myth treatment.
Steroid cream is safe to use sparingly and when necessary. Do note steroid creams comes in various strengths. The doctor should adjust accordingly. Once the redness is gone apply for another 1 week but thinner and stop. Then is moisture and keep cool. Both steroid cream and moisturiser can be used same place together.
Your shower gel/soap should also be changed. Is trial and error to which brand/type suits u. I recommend Eucerin shower oil. Avoid hot showers. Like warm will do.
Also take the meds given especially the anti histamine. That controls the itch. Take when necessary and this group of meds has little side effects even when taken long term. This same medication are also use to treat obesity.
Another anti itch cream I recommend is Sarna. Is no longer available locally but you can get it from the USA. Sun Blam is likely the closes now.
Meanwhile stop gym work. Those benches can be very dirty. After sweating as soon as possible clean up/dry and shower up. Clean cloths.
Since u go gym...be aware of any supplements u are taking.
Is a long and knn battle but we try!

Do u use steriod??
When the skin is very inflamed. Steroid is the best way to control and bring it down. Worry abt the side effects later...steroid through the skin is not as critical as oral steroid. But it works best to bring down the inflammation. No docs gonna let u take long term.

I was given with a lot of oral steroids, and was asked to take 6 pills a day and then tapering it down to 5,4,3,2,1 as weeks go by. But I was warned with the side effects of this oral steroid which left me contemplating and worried if I should start the course when there’s so many side effects of such pill.. other oral medicine given was antibiotics, calcium. I’ve yet to take any of it as I felt that it’s too much for my body to handle the amount of pills that i have to take (more than my grandma)
Is it common to take 6 pills or prednisone a day for the first week?

A GP has given me this before and I’ll only require to take 2 a day for a week.

besides the number of pills u should pay more attention to the dosage is mg. GP usually more conservative with their medication anything too much then will refer u to dermatologist. Specialists will be more aggressive with the treatment. They will finally taper off. What is prescribed is usually a single course. Once the meds are abt done the doc will see u again.
If ur skin is bad...u have to follow the directions of the doc....no point scared then skin issue persist leading to lost of quality of life and scaring.
Trust the doctor. However for whatever reason u feel unwell from the meds go see him immediately.

I was given 6 tablets by NSC.. After taper off, the flare up got even worse. And the NSC doc gave another round of steroids. Went on for a few rounds until I happened to be see by a senior consultant in NSC, who say I was given too much steroid and stopped it immediately.

My personal opinion is not to go for steroids unless really cannot tahan

actually honestly, i feel that my skin is a lot better now, my arms has totally smoothen out with no flakes but still looking dry, torso still itch a little, thighs is just red with minimal itch,i did not consume the pills at all but have tried dermovate scalp application and betamethasone on my forehead for a 3 days now.. personally i feel that TCM helps.. my biggest concern now is that my hair is still falling at a crazy rate, I've lost patches due to scratching but now it just drops easily. i do not know why and what is happening and unsure if oral steroid will help in my situation. parts of my scalp is still flaking and itches

i should go back to the doctor right? i have an appointment with the doctor at 10 june though..

Just returning to update on my status.
TLDR: Wrong diagnosis from almost every doctor (even TCM) I went to, ever.

My suggestion is to put the diagnosis of the doctor to the test. I can only input info based on my circumstance.

I no longer show allergy symptoms to egg yolks. After consumption it usually leads to skin bubbles on my palms, a lot of itching and scratching and scaly cracked skin.

Found out that I am not suffering from eczema, but the hand version of athlete's foot AKA fungus infection. Bought salicylic acid (in alcohol solution) and used for a few months now. Palm side is mostly back to normal skin, finger backs and nails still needs some time to recover.

If you recover using the below methods, congrats it was just fungus. If not you can still try using emu oil, can buy from the box rental shops (some of the chains, not all carry it). I did suffer from eczema recently, on my shoulder. Emu oil got rid of it.

1) Use the Salicylic in alchohol solution (can be bought from TCM pharmacies) on the affected areas. see if there is skin peeling and improvement after a few days.

2) Soak affected area in vinegar for 10 mins , pat dry then soak in baking soda for 10 mins. Repeat for a few days, see if there is improvement. Use cotton pads if affected area is not suitable for soaking (e.g Shoulders, face area)

3) keep affected area dry. can wash of course, but must pat dry asap. Fungus likes moist environment.

4) if there is damaged skin due to scratching or injuries, use vaseline on it. It promotes healing and acts as a shield against fungus invasion.

Well then, it's been some time since my last update:

1) Seems like there is resistance to salicylic acid after using it for a year or so.

2) Phased out vinegar and baking soda hand soak, seems to be less effective after a few months.

3) Switched to rice water + epsom salt + sea salt (for aquariums) hand soak for 10 mins each day. Hands have recovered to almost normal. Needs daily maintenance, otherwise bubbles will form and itching will start.
