recently kanna eczema flare. went to see specialist at NSC, he said its due to dry skin. he prescribed me with betamethasone 0.1%, strong dose for initial application, and 0.05%, mild dose for skin folds and application after redness has slightly decrease. he also prescribed me with aqurea urea cream 10% for moisturizer, asked me to moisturize myself 3 times a day, antibiotics and emolit, which is white soft paraffin as bathing soap.

so far, all my eczema has died down, leaving scars. but doc said something very important, eczema has no cure. betamethasone is topical steroids, it tackles the symptoms, not the root cause. he also mentioned that i shouldnt over apply, as it will cause thinning of skin, and that i should stop applying once the eczema turns brown into scar

please do not use topical steroids cream for long term application.

I'm a case of topical steroid addiction/dependence and the withdrawal symptoms were horrid. I'm officially close to 7 months off any topical steroid cream and my skin has been recovering slowly but surely.

ive been using steroids too. it disappeared for a good decade or so but its back with a vengeance now

just got prescribed with 6 tubes of steroids. there are a lot of side effects, just google whatever cream uve been given and u will find it. (i was given betasone 0.1% and 0.025%)

Hi all,

I've suffered from debilitating eczema and have recovered by abstaining totally from topical steroids and all moisturizers.

Topical steroids have tremendous awful long term side effects which one of it, is to result in chronic eczema, an iatrogenic condition caused by the medicine itself.

Moisturizers have also shown to have an ability to "fool" your skin by providing an artificial humid environment. Your skin will lose its ability to produce its own moisture and self regulate if you constantly slab moisturizers on them.

I blog and research extensively on this topic as I was suffering badly from it for close to 2 years back. I'm now 5 months of any topical steroids and moisturizers and my skin has been in the best condition since then.

No moisturizers?

umm I use it once on a daily basis.

then what do you suggest then?;P

Eczema sufferer myself but not using taking and using steroid based stuff. Using Hope's Relief cream that is suitable for Eczema, Psoriasis and Dermatitis. Cortisone free and have natural ingredients like Manuka honey UMF 10+, Aloe Vera. It helps to lessen the itch and flare ups. No vested interests, just trying to help and let others know there are steroid free alternatives out there. Hope's Relief - the leading eczema, psoriasis, and dermatitis natural treatment
