Target maybe at about 55yo semi-retirement - can do part time.
Hopefully at that time will have 2 pure rental income then can get retirement visa somewhere cheaper.

Yeah, what most pple didnt realise, u need a big cash injection at the start of ur investing journey, after that it gets easier.
Yeah. I think compounding interest works well when starting early at a young age but when one is older, it's basically playing catch up.

Also I plan to have kids (i know, I know, I am old and behind).

CPF. There are 2 camps or maybe more. dun need to eally care abt CPF changes. i.e. e.g. if u meet FRS in SA alone, lets say this year/next year, why do u worry about their changes? Yes, Investment is locked up for a long time, thats why it can compound. Its too late to inject cash near the end. One time tops at different age Search for "One-Time Top-ups".

Kenna squeezed, ya, sandwich gen at 41? What i did, budget. 2 type of expenses, "die die must pay", "manageable". "Die die must pay" will be ur utilities, mobile, transport, broadband, insurance, parents', mortgage, insurance, groceries, clothes/grooming, simply put "if nt paid, there will be consequences". Manageable is ur eating out (restaurant), Grab/taxi, vacation (divide by 12), so on and so forth.

Its a budget, nt tracking expenses daily (where gt time?). And u married, so wife must be on board.
This is a huge challenge. For me, I don't mind delayed gratification. I cam avoid going to restaurants, not take taxi. Avoid e expensive events and save the money for budget holidays backpacking in nearby Asian countries or the rare annual trip to Japan. I love travelling. I don't stay at expensive hotels or go restaurants. I stay at budget hotels, eat simple and take their cheapest public transport. I just want to see the world.

For my wife, it's the opposite. She dosnt like to travel and she told me to stop travelling too. But she does like the premium stuff when it comes to basic necessities like household cleaning detergents.
For ur parents, depends on how much u r giving. If they are working etc, its a token, if they r nt, its subsistence. Instead of giving all cash, buy for them bulk/frozen groceries. Parents (Merdeka generation), have been thru hard times, they would understand. Of cos, u dont kaki eat fresh. The best meal is still a warm meal together, not whether how much it is. Old pple (in general) tend nt to have the concept of saving, after all FP is a angmo concept in the 70s, oni reached here in the 90s i think. If there is 3 high(s), at least work with them to get rid of BS, BP. BC, i dun think its gd indicator, and hard to get it down. I can get the BS down, off the med, BP is creeping up, BC they took for years leow. That itself will make the QoL much better.

When i see a "no-need"(want), i always try to think like 10k 4% is $400. I do not have 10k to cover it, so i will save $10k to make my $400 b4 buying it. When i save it, i usually dun want it already. Likewise to get ur replacement income today is impossible. u can only cover ur "die die must pay", anything extra is gd. Start small. Enuff dividends to cover one bill, then the next. I got lucky, Eng Kong, EDMI, Saizen REIT, Croesus, GP Hotels, the stocks got delisted, and give me a big capital boost and I managed to roll into another. Nt terrific, mediocre i would say, 4+%. I dont do XIRR, buy/sell date track, but thats gold standard, but just meet my needs, dont care abt capital gains (unless sold). I would have gone for more capital gains stocks if i m younger in 20s, 30s, but too bad.

If gt kids, and >=13, i.e. sec sch. Check out this channel. I intro a friend to get his kids on it. They didnt subscribe, just watched free. 4 years later, he told me his kids didnt need tuition other than language. Sample size of 2, sec 2 / 4. If older, can try too, but hard to apply. Must be a age to put into practice what they learnt.
My worry now is kids. We are trying for kids but I do worry about the financial impact.

Around 50 now. Plan to slow down in the next 5 years and hopefully have a hard stop by 55. However if work conditions (which are pretty good at the moment) change, I may look to change job or just bring the hard stop earlier.

wa very good for a 36 year old.

Whats the break down like if you dont mind sharing.

your house equity 200k is based on market value and after divided by 2?

ETFs/funds/stocks 1.04 mil
cash 290k
CPF 430k (mostly in SA cos i did OA to SA transfer and top ups when young)

housing equity, yes, based on mkt value and apportioned to my contribution

Like what your life is like in retirement. Share what you do. Travels. Etc

Will just copy paste what I wrote elsewhere.

Stopped working. I suddenly found myself with too much time and dunno what to do. The first 3 months of leaving my jod, i felt very happy. Went travelling. Now is the 6th month. The dust has settled. Tbh I feel kinda lost. Trying to create a routine.

So far:

10.00 - 11.00am: Wake up without alarm clock
11.00 - 1.00pm: Go out lunch with wife
1.00 - 5.00pm: Plan dinner. NTUC runs. Sit massage chair. Read news. Doomscroll
6.00 - 7.00pm: Eat dinner
8.00 - 11.00pm: Check on kids. Watch TV. Chat with wife.
11.00 - 1.00am : Watch Netflix. Sleep.

Weekends i will see my NS son and try to spend more time with him. Organize dinners. Fetch him back to camp.

I asked Gemini should I go back to work. Gemini advised me not to. Gemini advised me to take care of my health and to spend more time with my kids.

Strangely. I found out doing nothing can be quite boring and depressing. A lot of things are iffy at this point. I have 2 more holidays to go in Dec. After that, i may try to find a jod. ☹️

I think you should try doing something you enjoy instead of working. Why not volunteer at church?
Do you do any sports? Work out? Gym?
Explore new restaurants and dining spots?
You mention before you like drinking. Maybe go for unique cocktails? Drinks?

My favourite cousin went shun shun at 55 y.o. She didn't even have a chance to travel with her CPF.

Jin heart break. Can't hear her loud funny laughter anymore. Her laughter super infectious de, especially after she drank beers. Miss her very much.

Should spend more time in the gym and doing sprints on track instead of doomscrolling and netflix.
The biggest flex for old people is a fit bod and looking half your age.
