I wonder how they are going to differentiate themselves from Starhub 10gbps fibre. If it's $28 for 10gbps.

Routing?

Three tiers: MyRepublic Fibre >= Starhub Fibre > Eight Home Internet

Eight Home Internet will not compete on feature and performance with MyRepublic Fibre Broadband and Starhub Fibre Broadband

Better routing --> it will be MyRepublic, espeically the Gamer plans

Maybe the following is just my wishful thinking.
Eight may offer 360 days contract (less than Starhub and MyRepublic), offer the same HB710 router as the Starhub 10Gbps speical offer (at S$33.59 per month, either CIS or giga offer) and MyRepublic 10Gbps plan (at S$39.99 per month and one time S$50 top-up for the HB710 router).

This will beat SIMBA handsomely (HB710 is better than the D-Link DPN-BE7212GR bundled by SIMBA 720 days plan. SIMBA 10Gbps one year plan do not even have router bundle.

Should start with $8 for 888Mbps.

Check out the sticky thread why this is not possible.

1. Why it is difficult for local consumer ISPs to offer S$20 per month (with GST) Fibre Internet plans?

This is because NLT charges the ISPs at S$13.50 per user per month (1:24 split ratio). Therefore it is difficult for any ISPs to offer S$20 per month to happen from Singtel/M1/Starhub unless NLT reduces the price further. The lowest per month pricing previously was S$21.80 for WC/SIMBA 2.5Gbps plan but both have raised price (without wireless router bundle).

NLT charges --> S$15 per month per user initially.
https://www.imda.gov.sg/-/media/imd...network/netlink-trusts-ico/19-schedule-15.pdf

Reduced to S$13.80 per month per user based on the following IMDA file dated 2-March-2020.
https://www.imda.gov.sg/-/media/imd...work/schedule-15-approved-date-2-mar-2020.pdf

Furher reduced to S$13.50 from April 2024 onwards as per the following DBS article.

It's technically possible. The fibre link speed might be 3 Gb/s or higher, but an ISP could throttle all traffic across that 3+ Gb/s link.

Take note what I mean to say is that S$8 per month Fibre Internet Plan for the current ISPs is not possible, unless the plan is subsidized by the Government, or there is a new ISP running as a charity.

No details on when they are starting and what IP address they are using yet right ?

Should have dynamic public IPv4 and /64 routable IPv6, since they will be using StarHub Infrastructure.

Need to see which plan they offer, at which price point and router bundle.

If 10Gbps plan at S$28 without router bundle, may not be attractive.

Redefining Service, the 8etter Way

eight Home Internet goes beyond traditional telco models with its Bring Your Own Router (BYOR) approach, giving customers the freedom to use their existing routers or purchase one from eight's trusted installers. This flexibility not only promotes sustainability but also helps customers avoid unnecessary costs.

What truly sets eight apart is its Service Guarantee, created to give customers peace of mind long after installation. This includes:

  • 28-day priority support via a dedicated hotline
  • Twice-yearly Internet performance check-ins to ensure consistent speed and reliability
  • An "eight Moment" welcome gift during installation
Together, these reflect eight's promise of dependable service and real value, long after the first connection.

Fast, Fair, and Built for Value

Priced at just $28.80/month, the new home broadband plan offers 10Gbps speed with no hidden fees and no unnecessary bundles - creating 8etter, faster and fuss-free connections for every home.

Customers on eight's existing 5G mobile plans can enjoy up to 18% off their broadband subscription, unlocking even greater value for households that stay connected across both mobile and home.
