Hi all

I ported from Zym to Eight ($8 plan) on 22nd Aug. Everything works fine.

Now since Zym is giving 1000 mins I want to port out from Eight and port to Zym. So far I did not make any payment to Eight. Should I do a payment to Eight and then port out or should I port out without doing any payment?
helpme@eight.com.sg

AFAIK, 30 days minimum and that means 2nd payment has to be made aka deducted. Or pay $20.

How? helpme@eight.com.sg or maybe eight.com.sg

Otherwise I suspect your port-out might fail.

Why? helpme@eight.com.sg

I dont think you can port out with outstanding payment. Where got free lunch in this world except for the 88NDP free 88 days promo?

Data point: port-in from Zero1 to eight
Signed up for the 88 days $0 plan online on 21 Aug, collected the SIM at Bukit Batok shop 4 Sept at 7pm.
Lost Zero1 signal at 11pm last night, popped new SIM card in this morning at 8am and worked perfectly with outgoing calls and SMSes reflecting the ported number.

I was expecting the porting to take place only tonight as I collected and activated my SIM at 7pm, but was faster than I expected. Yet to try, but fingers crossed that the incoming SMS/OTP works!

If I am leaving Singapore permanently, what will happen to my eight mobile number and account? Will I be able to keep my number (without a Singapore NRIC or residential address)? Can I do a transfer of ownership?

what was ur reason to port from Zero1? It was my first choice actually but due to porting issues I had to go with Eight cause they are more efficient.

My main reasons were signal strength, and lack of data (and cost of course).

Zero1 is my spare line, I wanted to keep costs as low as possible so was on the base $7.06 plan with 6GB to unlimited data. I consistently ran out of data as that equates to a mere ~200MB/day, and the 'unlimited' data thereafter is basically unusable for my purposes. Webpages took forever to load, videos couldn't play, I basically could only send whatsapp messages.

Also, even though it backpacks on the ST network, I found the connection to be worse than Starhub's (my main line). I live in the west and Jurong East MRT was a complete dead spot for me. I had to hotspot my main phone to get any connection on the platform, especially during peak hours.

Since eight had a deal for free 88 days, I thought I'd give it a try. If the signal works out well, $8 per month is still acceptable for me and offers a lot more data. The roaming is also a plus if I happen to be traveling.

What is the longest period I can keep the line if I don't top up?

https://www.eight.com.sg/faq-renew-recharge-and-billing
  • What happens if I do not renew my plan?
    • If you miss the date to renew your plan, you can renew it the next day. Simply do it on eight account or visit our retailers/ service centre.
    • At your plan expiry, the plan will go into a grace period of 60 days. During which you can receive SMS and notification to recharge. After 60 days, you will continue to receive SMS, however all unused wallet credit will be forfeited.

  • The FAQ does not really say when will the number be terminated coz after120 days, ur number still can receive SMS.

Definitely cannot do transfer of ownership for Eight. It's clearly stated in their FAQ which no one reads.

This is the confusing part, so after 60 days, you can still keep the number?

cos eight is not clear if after 60 days, will they terminate the number?

Or you try to topup $8 on the 100th day, the number will revive?

I just saw in FAQ.
Yes, cannot transfer ownership. I reckoned it is to protect those with nice number to sell it off in carousell for profit.

No, it's just that Eight are lazy a** who couldn't be bothered to provide the admin support required for such requests.

To be fair though most MVNOs are like that.
