Not only that. He has friends in Indo / Japan / Taiwan (I probably remembered wrongly) who are willing to send him an international SMS, AT THEIR OWN COST, just for testing purposes.

I tell you, this guy is not simple.

just a salaryman, eating cap cai png daily (without fish, sometimes no meat).
Let's get back to eight discussion.
Good point.

I actually think Eight's latest promotion is a bit sneaky.

Giving extra data and minutes is actually very "cheap" for them, because the actual cost to them is minimal. Most people can't even hit 188GB local data, let alone 228GB local data. Overseas roaming data is more expensive, so there is a little bit more cost there, but then again probably minimal because again most people are not close to maxing out their overseas roaming data.

Similarly with minutes and SMS, most people aren't close to their limits.

What I really wanted to see is 5G, even if it is a more expensive plan.

If they offered 5G for the $8 plan, the MVNO scene in SG will blow up, and EVERYONE will port over to Eight. I think Eight missed a trick here.

Whichever MVNO is the first to offer 5G plan at 4G price will win.

BUT ANYWAY, here's my first question. When you got your Eight SIM card, it comes with a temporary number. That should work straightaway when you pop it into your phone. Did it?

I'm guessing you must have also restarted your phone a million times when it wasn't working?

Where did you do the port in? Online? Ubi? Lucky Plaza?

Yesterday noon: apply online for port-in number from starhub
Yesterday 5pm: picked up sim from lucky plaza. sim works immediately with Internet and sms. didn't try calls.
Yesterday 8pm: old starhub sim stops working. new sim from eight has full signals but no Internet/call/sms
today 11am: new sim works

Yes, keep toggling airplane mode every half an hour during this period.

but i am pleasantly surprised they bumped their local outgoing calls allowance to 588.
sometimes will be put on hold for 45 mins when calling a hotline.

Does Wi-Fi calling work for you nice people on Eight? I saw that it works for some people, but not for others. Phone specific?

It doesn't work on my Xiaomi phone. There is no option to even toggle on Wi-Fi calling.

Didn't some users get 5G in Yishun before? Or wasn't it from Eight?

Anyway, ever since data roaming with Eight in JB, first time in over a decade I'm thinking of letting go of a couple of my Malaysia prepaid lines.

Does Eight have 5G with Maxis in JB? IIRC someone also mentioned that?

Think next trip I should slot my Eight SIM into a 5G-capable device... :look:

Nothing I can add here, I guess you were just unlucky, or it could be the new normal.
