Porting over within same telco network and internal subsidiaries seems fastest.

Activated eight SIM (with temp number) at 7+pm. Old giga SIM signal cutted off at 10pm, just as number got ported over to new eight SIM concurrently. No downtime in between.

Actually those carrier custom firmware can be easily reset with generic ones.

I have done that before with Nokia Symbian based phones (need to find generic firmware online and flash it) and also Android (just check CSC code and change) for Singtel sets.

true, easy to replace the firmware, also used to do it in the same era (change ROM weekly), now older, so dun bother anymore. in the case of the 2 above mentioned phones, i didn't bother with the first as it was already so slow and i donated it shortly. the 2nd was at near the end of the support life, so a custom rom was an easy way to extend the life and get more updates.

I haven't been able to receive google verification code sms, anyone else has the same problem?
I checked my eight account settings and it isn't blocking overseas SMS.
Also checked my phone settings and it isn't blocking either.
your issues resolved ?

just a random guess.

was the affected Mate20 originally sold by starhub? and had starhub-specific customistation/software installed?

and were the unaffected Mate20 and P30 sold by m1? and had m1-specific customisation/software installed?

You are right !
After careful inspection,
mobile phone from Starhub - STARHUB.SG 12.0.0.1(LT) 12.0.0.140
mobile phones from M1 - MONE.SG 12.0.0.1(LT) 12.0.0.132 and MONE.SG 11.0.0.3 (LT) 12.0.0.138

8 mobile SIM card or Starhub responsible to trigger the need to update software ?

Nope. I have the Mate 20X as well. Recently did a factory reset so no more StarHub or MONE firmware. When I insert my M1 SIM Card, it triggered a MONE update on my Mate 20X. Took out the M1 SIM Card replaced with a SIMBA SIM Card, no more update. Then changed to a StarHub SIM, it triggered the STARHUB update. Took out the SIM and changed it back to SIMBA, no more update.

Thanks all for sharing the tips here. Other than my own, i finally managed to port in my mum's line. Is there a way for my mum who wants to mk payment herself to go to the retail shops to do topup each month on her own? Coz she doesnt stay with me and does not have debit/credit card.

Use shopee to top up her $8 or $18 and set her account to auto recharge. If you have shopee account.

Have been using eight for 2 days.
My daily route:
Home=good connection
Bus interchange=poor or no connection
Workplace=good connection
Seen like eight have no good connection at basement area.

no issues with manually making her way to top up via retail shop monthly. But kinda troublesome.

alternatively:
1) link your cc to her account
2) top up for her via Shopee

At least she’s still contactable in case she forgets to top up.

When you do manual (re)activation due to auto-recharge not turned on previously, you'll have to choose which plan you want.

Life will be much easier if you take the time to read through their FAQ under the Help option.

After three set of Huawei Mate 20X reset to factory settings ,
Never installed SIM card from StarHub or M1 or Singtel after factory reset.
After factory reset, Huawei required a SIM card to activate the phone.
only one set of phones received the StarHub firmware update when the 8 mobile SIM card was activated.

There is no way to duplicate your situation.
Is it because your SIM cards are from MNO, my 8 mobile SIM card is a MVNO ?
or
maybe, you bought your phone directly from Huawei with no telco firmware locked ?
