yes data is getting slower. i enquired thru the customer service. the help is of little/no use.
eight probably over-grew. and these cases of patchy network quality is appearing.

it recovered somewhat. but not to initial quality/speeds
at this rate, i feel simba is faster than eight.

eight is using legacy starhub 4g. Whereas, for Simba, they build up their own 4G network and 5G

legacy 4G - any limitations?
since 3G was just turned off recently and all carriers are upgrading its networks to support 5G, 4G networks might not be well maintained. The 4G network has been online for more than a decade since, so they shouldn't be doing any significant upgrade to 4G,

And from the looks of it, eight will be the 4G sub-brand of Starhub, not likely any 5G soon. If one wants 5G, giga will be your option.

Simba which started its operations a few years ago during covid time, built its own 4G network and 5G network. So its newer

ok. ya eight says its only 4g. but isnt the majority of other telco customers oso on 4g oso? there isnt 5g mainstream yet per se.

so i tot eight would share the same quality of 4g with starhub. - but if this is true then starhub oso not v stable?
or they oversold to eight for their subscribers...with all these top-up deals...

actually 5G is quite mainstream liao, it's not like 5G just came out not long ago. Many Singtel based MVNO have 5G NSA and it's very fast and cheap.

Starhub and M1 on the other hand, their MVNO targets a different segment. Like M1 maxx, it's also a 4G only using M1 network.

The 4 main telcos Singtel, Starhub, M1 and Simba now offers 5G as a base now. Their target customers is also different.

So eight target the lower end, 4G segment customers. If they were to introduce 5G anytime soon, it will cannabalise giga 5G plans and their own Starhub sim only plans or MyRepublic 5G.

depends on what you like, eight offers the best roaming data bundle and IDD calls. But you just have to accept 4G. Otherwise can consider other alternatives. Can feel free to try around since it is no contract

thanks. didnt quite follow existing mainstream plans now. haha
4g is sufficient as not content intensive usage. cost being most prioritized.

it must be said that eight is over-saturated it seems and cannot handle queries well enough.
its probably will take time to move to 5g to absolve the cost of 4g network.

That being said, like those seniors who took up Simba senior plan at $5, though some places is slow, they find it okay, cheap and good.

Most of the young expect a lot better, and expectations are getting higher. Moreover, the amount of content we consume are increasing, and demand too. The quality of content also increases and hence needs more bandwidth. People also expect more.

That is why I moved from simba to eight to now Zym. Having 5G network and speeds is really very much different and it is just $7.77.

The big question is after this plan adjustment, what is the situation with 5G after 90 days.
I think we probably don't have an answer yet, but we should know soon.

don't question about the 5G. I've been using for 10 months on zym 5G, some even used more than 1.5 years on 5G.

I've been through many plan adjustments, most recently yesterday, upgraded from 100GB to 200GB on $7.77 plan.

ya 5g only for 90d = meaning not so mainstream yet in offering.
minimally the perceived cost-effectiveness of 5g plans not quite there yet.

Yes, of course.

While roaming in Malaysia? On which carrier(s)? At the same time, from the same device (or at least device make/model), in the same location? Also on 4G or 5G (as the case may be)? Does a Singtel SIM/eSIM (while roaming in Malaysia) route back to Singapore, or does it exit onto the public Internet within Malaysia? To which end destination address(es)?

lol, first you said yes of course, then you asked if Singtel routes back to Sg or exit into public Internet in My? Like other telcos, Singtel gets a Sg IP when roaming and I’m not aware of any roaming that doesn’t route back to home country first.

Yes, we really can say that. We really do know that most people don't care about or need 70 ms less ping time (for example) while roaming in Malaysia. We can be quite sure that difference (if it exists) is not something most people prioritize at all.

No, you're oversimplifying. Nobody rational cares about a purported ~70 ms ping time reduction when doing all sorts of things with their mobile phones: getting directions on Google Maps, sending/receiving WhatsApp messages, downloading new apps, sending and receiving e-mail, etc.

today my Eight has been sluggish and when I checked it auto roamed onto Celcom. mbps is still great but latency hits 140ms. the lag is very noticeable when opening app and loading new pages. having said that, those making voice calls only can don’t care. 🙂

i thought eight Vietnam roaming partner is Vinaphone only? does it support 5g roaming?
No 5g. The data sometimes not working. Need to off and on, wait and pray.

Not really good if you meeting your colleague staying in another hotel.

My colleague using Eskimo esim also vinaphone. Always also need to off and on data. Lucky cmlink via mobifone always working.

i think it's a vietnam issue. I brought both simba and zym, both encountered issues, wonky connection

Was there a week sometime back using eight and Simba. Almost perfect connection with eight (5% drop coverage) / perfect connection with Simba.
