I ported from Gomo to Eight and am regretting. It’s not even 30 days yet. As mentioned, indoor coverage is pretty bad. Outdoors no issue. Thinking of switching to Zym or Vivifi. The latter has permanent 5G for their asiaRoam. Zym advertised 5G for first 3months, though anecdotally people have reported the 5G still continues…

selling point of Eight is the WiFi calling.

Leaning towards vivifi, $0.10 cheaper and with guaranteed permanent 5G but fewer mins.

Back to topic guys. To stay competitive, eight needs to have 5G on their $11.80 and $18 plans, otherwise it will lose badly.

However, if they have 5G SA on $11.80 plans, it will cannibalise Giga 5G plans.

I don't think they need to, most people subscribe to eight because it's <$10 with lots of roaming data to a whole bunch of countries that are not just "Malaysia".

StarHub probably has the best national coverage on 4G. Of course there are variations by location. Singtel may just have better coverage where you are.

If you mean network throughput, that’s a different concept. You need at least marginal coverage to get any network throughput. No coverage means zero throughput.

That’s one advantage, but it’s not the only one. $5 non promotional senior plans, generous international roaming allotments (competing mainly with SIMBA and M1 Maxx), and sub-brand instead of MVNO status are attractive to some people.

I wouldn’t necessarily assume that. Other possible improvements could be relevant. And StarHub has 5G plans via both StarHub‘s main brand and Giga, plus MVNOs. Anyone who cares about 5G has StarHub options already.

However, if they have 5G SA on $11.80 plans, it will cannibalise Giga 5G plans.

Plans aren’t fixed forever.

Yes, it’s like SIMBA but $2 less and with a better overall network in Singapore. (SIMBA’s 5G isn’t that great.) And it’s like M1 Maxx but without a pre-programmed price hike after 360 days. Also, the $5 senior plan is pretty terrific.

However, I think Jurong640’s point is that Eight’s plans above $8 are less competitive. Maybe, but I suspect some people are using those higher priced plans temporarily for overseas trips when they want more data. I don’t think that’s necessarily the best solution, but people obviously do it. Then they may drop back down to $8 (or $5) until their next trip.

Imo either eight has to add 5g to their plans or Giga has to bump up their roaming data to stay competitive. New Maxx 5g plan is really making the market real competitive right now with 5g SA and very decent roaming for its price.

If SH is worried about eight having 5g and eating into Giga market then they should bump Giga plans for more overseas roaming, this way I believe gomo will strongly follow suit as well. Good times for the market ahead

You're not getting any signal in those indoor areas? That would be bad coverage in the places you go. Or are you getting a signal (even a strong one), but you're getting unacceptably slow data throughput (slow speeds)?
