Eight 4G vs Maxx 4G (and Maxx 5G), test done a few days ago

Eight S$8 plan (4G)
Maxx S$10 plan (5G)

M1 Maxx 4G (Poco X7 Pro, force to use 4G) Vs Eight 4G (Poco X6 Pro) at home (Jurong West area, near to Jurong Point).

Maxx 5G is of course much faster, but that is probably not a fair comparison bit Eight 4G.

which telco do u recommend?
depends on the area you frequently visit or at.

I suggest you sign-up a new line for a trial for a month or two.

I chose Zero1 because of eSIM.
Not Zym because they are still issuing physical SIM card, and also, the perpetual 5G trial on 4G plan has ended. Why waste SIM card space

for me:
- Office - Winner: Singtel/Zero1/Zym
Eight/Starhub signal was really bad where my desk is.

- Home - Singtel/Zero1/ZymSingtel
Eight/Starhub signal was one-bar in my living during reno, so decided to port out, but recently improved when I looked at my wife's eight full signal bars IIRC.
During reno, I used Zero1 on my 4G modem, for security purposes and device: Xiaomi Doorbell 3S and Xiaomi CCTV, despite getting only 2-3 bars, I can still stream live video from my office.

- Commute - Singtel/Zero1/ZymSingtel
I could feel the difference between singtel/zym/zero1 5G and eight's 4G, especially the recent eight throttling their speed. Eight was laggy, singtel was zippy.
But still, during peak hour commute in EWL tunnel, was a staring contest between my phone and I. It was a draw between Singtel and Eight/Starhub,

Probably because you are not using SingTel proper but SingTel MVNO (5G NSA now).

Singtel proper has higher priority than SingTel MVNOs.

Within SingTel, there are also three tiers.
5G+
5G+ Enhanced
5G+ Priority

any Singtel SIM-only plan that you would personally recommend without burning a hole in the pocket?

S$15.28 per month Singtel SIM only plan (12 months contract), but only for recontract, without "5G+ Enhanced" label. This is my main line and I have no intentions to change it any time soon.

If you are keen, you can jump to Singtel Enhanced Core plan for one month at S$40 and then jump into this plan.

Another possibility is S$19.25 Singtel CIS Enhanced Lite plan offer (labeled as "5G+ Enhanced", 12 months contract).

More info here.

Have you tried using your mainline during peak on EWL tunnel or DTL?

If you port-in your number to Eight on one of the company’s 5G plans (S$14.80/month or S$18/month), you’ll receive two free months. This promotion is available on-site at Suntec Convention Centre or you can apply for it online. This promotion is valid from 30 October to 23:59 SGT on 2 November 2025.

You’ll be able to find this promotion at Eight Telecom’s booth (8404) on Level 4.

Not exactly peak hours as I commute to work daily on Bus, only MRT Lines during weekends (EWL, NSL, Circle Line).

In general no issues on EWL, even the so called black hole of Tiong Bahru and Outram Park.

NSL Orchard station is more challenging than EWL but still no problems to browse the internet.

hmm okay. Singtel SIM Only Plan (SOP) sounds good then.
