Me. It feels like really it is the same speed with SH. I meant i dont feel the difference when i was with SH vs SH-MVNO.

Indeed if one is willing to pay, I see more than 10 times SpeedTest result difference in terms of StarHub 5G (using StarHub Prepaid S plan) vs 4G (Eight 4G and CUniq 4G) at home.

Same for M1 5G versus M1 4G, tested with M1 Maxx S$10 5G plan and Circles.Life S$12 plan free trial.

If I were to use Eight as the main line, I would go with Eight S$14.8 5G plan. But then I am using Singtel S$15.28 SIM Only plan as the main line. So I will keep using Eight S$8 plan as the backup line and also for roaming (roaming voice can be useful in some cases).

BTW, with the S$88 one to one top-up offer, Eight S$14.8 5G plan becomes S$7.4 in terms of effective price, which is very good pricing for a 5G enabled plan.

True, but the $8 plan became $4, and the $5 senior plan became $2.50. The top up promo effectively cut every plan’s price in half. Or even a bit better than that with Shopee coupons.

Relatedly, every Eight plan (except their data-only plans) works quite well for voice telephone service. Does anyone remember when people used mobile phones as phones?🤣

Changi mobile is ceasing operation also.
Think the competition among MVNOs is really high.

hope eight is going to survive long enough.

As mentioned earlier, eight is a wholly owned subsidiary of StarHub.

It is an important sub-brand of StarHub to compete in the lower value segment of the mobile service market and also for Fibre Internet market.

In fact, eight may survive longer than giga if judging from the current situation. If later Myrepublic mobile gets absorbed into StarHub, we may see giga gone forever.

Even in unlikely scenario that it gets the same fate as SingTel heya (more like a rebranding as SingTel hi!), there will be not much changes.

BTW, Singtel heya rebranding to Singtel hi! is different from StarHub Happy Prepaid which StarHub killed and converted the users to the new StarHub Prepaid Plans (prepaid in name, postpaid in terms of IMDA classification).

Ic.ic. Thanks for the clarification.

then should be safe indeed. I have $528 credit inside now haha.

actually kind of redundant to have so many MVNOs directly under the telco. 3rd party one is understandable.

eight and giga exist at the same time is really kind of redundant.

Not for her use case as we still need to call her occassionally (just in case WhatsApp does not work). The data only plan does not have voice/SMS.

Now you mention data only SIM Only plans, I will need to carry out more research on them. I tend to think they are good for some special use cases like iPad or roaming but not for a main line.
Even WhatsApp does not work as the data only plan is not assigned with mobile no., that is no way to register for WhatsApp right?

This 88days + $88 1-for-1 is really a good deal. For a mere $96, one can stop paying any more mobile expenditure for 30+88+660=778days or 2.13years. And the average monthly cost for a $8 plan is only:
365/778day x $96=$45.03,$45.03/12=$3.75 🤓

I intend to port in from zero1. During registration I should be choosing SingTel as my current provider right? Cause there is no zero1.

Emailed eight but no response. Sighh
