I definitely think there are more that use Eight Mobile and are still happy, especially those manage to get hold of the 1-for-1 promo. I, for 1, am very happy with Eight, especially for the price. 😀

Just for reference, Singtel hi! 4G postpaid plan (heya replacement) is another type -- indicate max validity of the wallet so that the users will not top up too much.

But then it does not have top-up offer after the rebranding, even though the S$5 per 30 days Singtel hi! 4G senior plan is not too bad for local usage (or MIT usage, Malaysia, Indonesia and Tailand).

https://cdn1.singteldigital.com/con...ts-services/mobile/hi/pdf/singtel-hi-faqs.pdf

++++++++++++
What is Singtel hi! wallet?

Singtel hi! wallet refers to your charging account, with which you can purchase new Singtel hi! plan or any
Singtel hi! Add-on pack with credits in the account.

You can top up your Singtel hi! Account wallet credits in denominations of $10 for 60 days validity or $30 / $50
for 180 days validity
through the Singtel hi! app or Singtel hi! authorised retailers.
++++++++++++

good thing about eight is that it is postpaid but it works like prepaid and best part is it works better than a typical prepaid.

one no need to top up to keep the line 'alive' but just need to continue to buy plans to keep it active. :p

Eight's next promotion is going to be this: top up $3,888, get a lifetime of 4G mobile service. Y'all in?

$3888 is around 40 years at the full price of $8 per billing cycle. I would be eligible for senior pricing long before that. Besides I doubt 4G will be around for another 20 years. $888 (9 years full price) can consider. Anything more, lol no.

If you top up S$888, you get S$1766 in the wallet. So you get 18.5 years if you go with eight S$8 4G per month plan, or around 10 years if you go with eight S$14.8 per month 5G plan.

4G may be gone as early as 2032 or maybe until 2035.

But eight allows users to switch to 5G plan at S$14.8 or S$18. So you can switch to 5G after 4G is gone, if you really want to top up S$888...

I will not want to be locked with single provider for so long ...

All the MVNOs PostPaid plans work more or less like Prepaid in terms of payment terms. Even for the big three MNOs, StarHub's expensive 5G Unlimited+ and 5G Platinum plans are like prepaid in terms of payment terms.

In terms of real prepaid plans as per IMDA classification, i.e., SingTel Prepaid and M1 Prepaid, actually you can have better user experience than typical MVNOs, at least for local usage. But you need to pay more if you want to have regular data every month.

SingTel Prepaid: S$15 per month or more, 5G SA, hotline and physical shop support.

M1 Prepaid: S$14 per month or more, 5G SA, hotline and physical shop support

Here I do not want to mention SIMBA prepaid as it is not as good and not popular either.

A YouTube video that talks about 5G.

Obviously 5G is way overrated for what it can really do.

I highly doubt that 4G will be gone for so soon. Many countries especially those with large geographical area will never able to cover with 5G only anytime soon to retire 4G.

even given the signficant smaller geographical area, we do not get decent 5G coverage anywhere especially indoor.

cost to implement such many towers to cover enough like 4G is significant. But the cost that telcos can recover from consumers is even significant lower than 25 years ago when mobile phone first getting popular. The revenue per customer they can make now is significantly less years by years against the investment on 5G. This is totally against business logic. There is a significant unbalance here.

not really, most MVNOs postpaid do work more like postpaid, becos u cannot ‘stop’ service while keeping ur line alive technically. Traditional postpaid do allow one to ‘suspend’ ur service temporarily, but u still need to pay a minimum fee monthly during suspension period to keep the line active.

While eight works really like prepaid, u can stop buying plans or reload but can still keep ur line for 60 days before the line is terminated. This aspect majority of the MVNOs do not support this. This is why I commented that it works like prepaid service especially similar to what prepaid works in Bolehland as well.

Just FYI.
https://www.zdnet.com/article/t-mob...to-phase-out-4g-what-it-means-for-your-phone/

Starting January 2026, T-Mobile will only allow new device activations if they support true 5G Standalone (SA) mode. LTE and 5G Non-Standalone (NSA) devices will require exception requests for activation.

In two years, only a narrow 5 MHz LTE channel will remain, marking a substantial reduction in the LTE footprint.

The above article does say the following. The other major networks in US will keep 4G LTE to mid-2030s.

SG Telcos will be less aggressive than T-Mobile but faster than AT&T and Verizon. That is why I say "4G may be gone as early as 2032 or maybe until 2035".

If this all sounds familiar, well, it should. In 2022, we saw 3G services disappear. What's different this time is that T-Mobile is leading the way to closing 4G. Both AT&T and Verizon, so far at least, have not even hinted at shutting down their LTE services. The 5GStore, which is a reseller of 5G equipment, predicted there would be no 4G LTE shutdowns until the mid-2030s.

that's the predicted timeframe. with 2035 it is still 10 years more to go which shows the runway to fully 5G coverage still long time to go.

and phase out likely to be at the 'developed regions'. lion city is small, so it may be possible.
but countries with big geographical area it is totally not to phase out older network completely for 5G as it is impossible to cover the entire country with 5G.

good examples is that bolehland now has 4G/5G, but 2G is still around and operate as backup as it is needed to cover rural/remote areas without 4G/5G for basic communication needs such as phone calls etc. still.

lion city as a developed city, 4G maybe phased out as it is easier to cover the entire country, but certainly not a easy to other countries to phase out 4G completely so easily as a whole county.

Hi all, I already have a Zero1 as main line and need a spare one for covering those countries not in the common APAC roaming regions (eg. Europe). I travel extensively for work and sometimes not back to SG for 2-3 months in a stretch. Local SG coverage is not important to me. Is Eight a good choice? Does Eight have a policy that limits the no. of consecutive roaming days? Thanks for your input.

I do indeed agree that 4G strikes the best balance for network speed and connection stability. But the technology must move on as the world is moving so the govt and the telco companies is creating a scenario and environment that 5G is way more superior. We are brainwashed.

It is anticipated that 5G network stability will be improved when 6G comes in with AI technology to capture multiple stations to address its weak wall penetration problem.

What you describe is really just a byproduct of how 5G is typically deployed when upgrading an existing mobile network: first in the higher bands, later in the low bands. AFAIK low band 5G offers at least as good coverage/range as low band 4G, other things being equal.

Singapore is a little strange because M1 and StarHub share the same 5G network (Antina) but have separate 4G networks. So you're not exactly comparing 4G apples to 5G apples with these carriers.
