ported my SIMBA line to eight, no issue, port-in next working day. For eight, I went with eSIM.

i see thank you. i need to terminate one of my trial lines first, then will go for esim

Today, I received my physical sim card in the mail box. I ordered on line on 9 Jul. So total 6 working days (8 days inc weekend).

picked up my 2 sim cards earlier.



flight mode, insert sim into slot2, disable flight mode.
for testing, just used settings to choose SIM1 vs SIM2 for data. no other settings changed.

ran speedtest on my hp (nothing phone 2 Android14). test server PT.Mora

8 aka SH: 97.6 down, 5.39 up, 39ms latency, 3ms jitter
ST CIS: 69.1 down, 11.5 up, 36ms latency, 13ms jitter

earlier did some tests against Phoneix NAP. Same trend, but overall slower
on some earlier tests to PT.Mora, 8 went as high as 125down, ST as high as 85down. I didn't note the other speeds/timings.

apps do load faster, snappier. No other tests done. 87 days left


the other card is in my backup phone (6 year old SD845 model). Timings are slower as expected, but proportionately wider margins (existing SIM is GOMO 4G). No comments on the reason for the slower Gomo performance vs Singtel CIS (since both are supposed to be the same priority, but this is for non-crucial use, so i'm not too bothered - if the 8 performs better over the next 3 months, then i'll may jump ship)


edit: test carried out approx 2230 in a quiet corner of pasir ris. how it performs in mrt/town during rush and peak hour, when driving from pasir ris to tuas, roaming (partner dependent) etc, will have to be tested.

Honestly, the physical SIM cards are very cheap, given that the telcos buy them in the thousands. MVNOs perhaps in smaller quantities.

Just like CallerID, Call Waiting, and other VASes - these become revenue streams. It's worse when these companies are listed and have to satisfy shareholders (i.e. must pay out dividends and profit), so there is a reason why costs are going up.

friend used to work for gemplus. he was laughing at how much profit telcos make by charging us $30+ per sim card. the profit margin is obscene.

the other pure profit is SMS. in this day, what is the value to consumers in offering 500 SMS/month? it's the telco equivalent of the bay window.

same goes to caller ID, it's cash cow for the 3 telecos, thats why till now they don't give it free. they have around 4 million customers, say take half of them 2 million and $5/mth for caller id, see how much they earn monthly.

I have ID issues too. But after that i found out that each ID only can sign up 2 lines (doesn't matter free lines or paid lines).

I queried cso, they replied that i will have to terminate one line in order to port in. Hence, the error in ID during sign up on porting in

Take note that sending in an email to terminate doesn't mean can reapply immediately. Have to wait for it to be effected. When...
