Oh, you just reminded me of something: does eight throttle the speed once X amount of data has been used?

anyone knows what’s the threshold when eight starts throttling?

so far I only used about 25GB per month so I don’t know if they throttle

No throttling. If you run out of data, you just have zero data.

Anyone using 8 tried to transfer eSIM from iPhone 15 to new 16 instead of going down to service centre?
just realised from iPhone 15, eSIM can be transferred from previous iPhone to new iPhone.

Where did you see this from ?

There is this feature call esim quick transfer that was available since ios 16 (when iPhone 14 was launched), and not limited to specific iPhone models. However carrier support is required.

Based on apple, no carrier in SG support it yet :

None of the MNO mentioned this feature on their website.

Android 14 added support esim quick transfer as well, at least on Samsung & Goggle Pixel 8 phone.

Just tried, msg shown eSIM transfer not support by carrier, think it need to be done by 8 setup from their end.
anyway, 8 is free eSIM transfer by their service centre.

Just talk across the causeway.... When the likes of red and orange were charging 30 40 for SIM card replacement, I only had to pay RM5 RM10 in JB.

Do you think our telcos will hurry to support eSIM transfer?

Or maybe 8 can start the ball rolling...

Er, you want to save battery might as well go on wifi calling and turn on airplane mode.
Like that easily last for days.
iPhone is better at this than Android, 9-10 days easily if the phone don't go out, record is ~14 days on iPhone 14.

For those MVNO not charging or charge token sum, it could make sense.
It may cost them more to hire staff to perform the job.

remember what happened to Singtel, they only started esim not long ago. eSim has been around for many years, but they are not first to adopt. Other telcos started and for a few years liao.

These telcos last time use to earn a lot from physical sim, or even M1 use to charge eSim. Simba also charge $5 for change of esim.

On telco POV, if users can suka change seamlessly, i don't earn anything from it. It's the same story as Caller ID, the 3 main telco still charging for it. Because that's cash cow, they easily earn 10 millions each month.

or when should key-in the activation codes after receiving the PIN from eight?
or where good to visit?

Why would a tourist get that instead of the regular plan??

It's data only, like how many of us travel on holiday and normally just use WhatsApp to communicate.

But sometimes when traveling, it’s good to have a local number to call local businesses too... that’s why thinking if I were a tourist, would go for that instead.

I would agree with you. There is pretty much no reason to get the data only sim, unless there is some advantage that is not obvious.

For my case, if I want an 8 eSIM for my iPad, it'd have to be a tablet plan coz that'd allow me to receive the OTP via email.

Right? Make the tourist plan = data only plan and charge a lower price for it because no minutes. Even if lower by $1-2, better than nothing…

Can't that be done with an esim for regular plan ?
How does tablet plan makes that different ?
