hi everyone.
i activated my $0 for 88 days sim card on 9th september. but now the 4g has been deactivated even though its not 88 days yet. i logged into my eight account on my pc and its asking me to choose a plan. hmmm thought the choosing of the plan is only after 88 days? has anyone experienced similar?thought it was $0 for 88 days. now its only 30 days
aiya, wasted. if only u spent that two seconds to copy and paste the promo code, you would have 2 months extra free internet.

Actually Eight is being a bit sneaky, because when they first launched, 88 days free did not require any promo code. Then in August 2024 they launched a new promotion with promo code EIGHTNDP2024 that you had to key in at the last page, else you'll only get one month free. I suspect easily half of all new signups in that period missed the promo code.

And that folks is how they make money. C'est la vie.

Already over and done with. Look forward, don't turn back unnecessarily.

10.10 I switched my $0 to Double Eight. Christmas 2025 (y)(y)
not me, not me who did not copy-and-paste the promo code for free internet.
I don't have to move on

IIRC that code thingy happened after the actually 88 days free promo ended?

So that's just an NDP promo?

It's just people taking things for granted, much like how someone in FB asked when they'll have another 88-day free "promo" that started off as a trial.

I think that's smart instead of sneaky. If they like eight they can convert 2 months earlier. If they don't like eight and won't consider porting in eight save 2 months of bandwidth. Of course for us smarter hwzers we will still make sure we get the full 3 months trial lol.

you needed to key in a promo code to get free 88 days , otherwise it is only 30 days
very likely you didn't key in the promo code

it's too late now.
either you continue with a paid plan or let it lapse
sigh yes you are right bro
Hi there,

We checked on your account trail on our backend and noticed that the promo code was not inputted during the signing up process.

Hence you will not be able to enjoy the 88 days promo. Your plan only ran for 30 days FOC😢

Thanks for choosing eight!

Regards,
Team eight - E 😉

I still think Eight is great value even without the 88 days free. As long as you also got the $8 bonus balance, you effectively get two months free usage of Eight, which isn't bad by any means.

Now, new signups of Eight get zero days free. They have to pay from Day One.

Eight's current "promotion" isn't actually a promotion, it is a permanent increase to the entitlements in their Double Eight and Triple Eight plans. I suppose you can consider it a permanent promotion, but it isn't your typical promotion if that makes any sense.

I am actually wondering too.
They set their bank OTPs to these numbers. If they forgot to top-up, or forgot to follow the trend, GG sia.

Is that being a bit sneaky, or catching customers who don't read properly and just sign on the dotted line?

Some went around signing up and collecting premium numbers. So they are selling the numbers, just waiting for the right sucker buyer who is willing to pay their cutthroat price but they are not willing to pay to maintain the lines, so maximum profit.

Then there are some who just like the bragging rights. In one well known case during the TPG/SIMBA trials, there's a famous person who allegedly signed up for 20 lines and went around bragging about it.

Wah, didn't know. Is there a market for this kinda thing here? Like how much is the average rate for premium numbers?

A bit of both I suppose.

The business models are different. Say for ST or SH, just charge full price and rip off everyone. What they give is highest priority on their network, 5G, 24/7 hotline, but not necessarily the most data. They also give convenience.

Whereas for the cheaper MVNOs, there is always some catch. Nothing comes for free.

An MVNO like heya or Eight makes money off people who aren't that careful, or not really that OCD. I don't really like this business model as it makes money off people who make mistakes, but it is what it is. Similar to Groupon; while they existed, they made money off people who bought the vouchers and never used them.

As an example, I know someone who signed up for a new line in August, forgot to key in the EIGHTNDP24 promo code, so he was only give 30 days free. He then itchy hand went to recharge the Double Eight plan on the second day without reading the T&Cs clearly, thus overriding the free plan (he thought it would queue up after the free plan ends). He ended up getting only one day free.

So, Eight makes money off people like that, and that's why I don't really like this business model. Nothing much we can do about it I'm afraid, except to try to be careful ourselves.

And yes, Eight is actually quite smart to do this, as everything is above board and nothing they do is illegal.

A genius move of Eight (and heya) is the ability to top up your balance with all sorts of promotions. So while Eight and heya are stricly no-contract plans, for people who top up their balance until Christmas 2025 (seriously not trolling here, just an example), they are actually locking themselves to Eight with a long term contract. It's actually quite a genius move if you think about it, and win-win perhaps?

As long as no cheaper/better plans with other MVNOs come along I suppose.

As I speak, heya is still giving out free $5 bonus with every $30 top-up, and $10 bonus with every $50 top-up. And Eight still has all sorts of promotions with Shopee sellers, especially the 200 bonus Shopee coins for $8 top up with DV Tech, which is a really good deal.
