The network lost issue could be due to Eight having 5G but not available to customers, thus the phone may try to register the network to Eight 5G but got kicked out.

Correct.

If the phone has the 5G setting on, it will continuously try to connect to 5G, which may cause all sorts of problems. Whereas with the 4G-only setting on, there will be no issues as the connection to 4G towers will always succeed.

Now with 3G decommissioned, we must also enable VoLTE so that we can make and receive calls when on 4G. Some phone models (like iPhone and Google Pixel) hide this setting so that VoLTE is always enabled; for other phone models, it will be somewhere in Settings, Mobile Network, etc.

does anybody have any idea why is my roaming in bkk not working? have already manually selected the partner network, enabled data roaming, and made sure APN is ‘shwap’

also did the usual airplane mode, restart phone etc

there’s 4G indicated (iphone), but no data can be used

I have no problem with my android phone, I don't even need to manually select partner network, my network setting is 4G, and below, it just auto roam connect when at the BKK airport

you might want to try manually disable 5G and manually enable volte

volte was on by default, i turned it off and on again and it worked 😅 not sure how does that affect data but 🤷🏻‍♂️

I'm using iPhone, no need to manually select. It's auto connected to True network once I enabled data roaming.

$8 x 4mths = $32

Regardless, this CNY topup promo not sincere at all.
No matter how there will be leftover odd wallet balance which cannot be fully utilised away for most ppl on monthly $8 deductions.
