Best Coverage
eight has the best network coverage. Our network covers 99.9% of Singapore with guaranteed connection in places where other networks struggle e.g. basements and MRT tunnels.
“Coverage” does not indicate any particular level of throughput. If you can receive a text message or establish a voice call in a tunnel, you have coverage there.

Did not try calls/sms.

But basic web browsing was Unusable weekday mornings in the Mrt tunnel, weekends is fine.

So it is the Throttling done by Eight.

i have been travelling around recently for works...
Shanghai, Bangkok and currently in Seoul.

As shared before,.. I was using SIMBA but had to sign on $8 Eight data plan cos the reception of SIMBA in my office was very poor. Eight data has worked very well for me to places that I frequent including at home in Jurong. As for oversea.. Eight is definitely smoother than SIMBA. when I use SIMBA oversea,, it will keep searching for the local network partner and took much longer time to hook on to the local partner......... I am suspecting my IP 12 might also play a part. for eight , it is instant.

Most of my family members had switched over to Eight from SIMBA...... the response from them was definitely better especially on MRT (green line).. though there might certain area where there will be no network for a short period of time.

Conclusion : it will boil down to the coverage of eight or simba in areas where you frequent..... SIMBA $12 package with 7 GB oversea data is good for those who needs to travel; its Eight equivalent will cost $18.

Your feedback is the best and most sensible. You know what you paid for and made the best of it. And you work around it to suit your lifestyle.

Probably, but there are some other variables involved. Try these steps if you can:
  1. Disable 5G. Eight is a 4G LTE service at present, so your phone doesn’t even need to try to connect to a 5G network. (Also disable 2G and 3G if that option is available on your phone.)
  2. Disable roaming (on the off chance your phone tries to roam onto a foreign network).
  3. If you have any additional SIMs or eSIMs in your phone, disable (not remove) them if you exclusively want to use your Eight Telecom SIM/eSIM.
  4. While in the area where you’re having trouble (low or no data speeds) try power cycling your device.
  5. Enable low data mode (a.k.a. data saver mode on Android). This setting may reduce network competition from your own device in favor of foreground tasks.
  6. If you have Wi-Fi enabled (with Wireless@SGx for example), that’s fine, but the handoffs between Wi-Fi and cellular networks should be smoother as you move about if you enable Wi-Fi Assist.
  7. Install any carrier updates. On iOS: Settings → General → About. On Android (typically): …→ Carrier Settings → Update Profile. Be sure to restart your phone (powering it off then on works) after installing any carrier updates.
  8. Update your phone’s operating system to the latest available release.
  9. If a particular Web site is slow or unreachable, try another. For example, if google.com is slow or unreachable is bing.com any better? Or if you’re using a speed test Web site try another site/server. And is there a ”low bandwidth” version of the Web site you can use? For example, many social media apps allow you to disable automatic video playback and/or reduce video size/quality when you do play them. As another example, Facebook offers a “Facebook Lite” app for Android that uses significantly less data than their standard app.
  10. Make sure your phone supports all of StarHub’s 4G LTE bands: 3, 7, 8, and 38.
  11. If you suspect there’s a problem with DNS lookups then you could try installing a DNS over HTTPS profile. If you have any such profile installed, make sure it hasn’t expired.
  12. If you have a physical SIM card, try it in a different phone (make/model) and see if you get different results.
  13. Check for and remove any “proxyware” apps.
  14. Try taking your phone out of its case to check if the performance is any better. Occasionally a phone case can interfere with a phone’s cellular radio.
  15. Have you already used up your data allotment for the current billing cycle? Check at account.eight.com.sg.
  16. Finally, be reasonable in your expectations. For example, reliably streaming 4K video aboard a packed, rush hour MRT car may not be possible — and is absurd on a ~6 inch screen anyway. How about downloading a 480p version before you leave home? (Or listen to a downloaded podcast?)

but i am started to wonder if it is my older iphone that is causing it to having difficulty in detecting SIMBA partners when oversea. The same phone has no issue in hooking up to Eight partner...
(FYI.. my physical SIM is simba and the eight is on e-sim).

My iPhone (HK version thus dual physical SIM) 12Pro, 12ProMax, and 13ProMax are all with Simba SIM cards. Data Roam is turned on 24/7 ever since local data is shared.

Been crossing the causeway every other week, and all phones auto-connect to Celcom not long after I get into JB. Especially the 12Pro which I rely on for TnG payments right from the shop in BSI, the CIQ building on Woodlands side.

Other SIM card in each phone is an old Malaysian Prepaid, which I switch over for data as and when I need.

Coming from the likes of ST and M1, which I previously had to worry about this and that.

So no, I won't say it's due to the older iPhones. (Have Eight in an iPhone 11Pro, auto-detect though takes a bit longer, and I suspect it's only because Hotlink and U Mobile aren't exactly very active around BSI.)

Eights connectivity have to say depends on phone model as well, I have 99.99% coverage very happy with the connection, but some friends with the older iPhones will have issues with connection even tho we literally at the same spot. So I guess eight is not for everyone. Test one month not suitable just port to zym Zero1 or maxx lo. But Simba is jinjia bad no matter what phones we use lol.

When I travel and I want constant connection, I won't rely on such roaming lines alone.

YMMV

Anyone tried roaming with 8 in Europe before?

Will be going to Germany, Austria and Italy later this year.

Previously was using M1 data passport and it was all good for Europe, Japan, Korea,Malaysia.

Hard to say. Unless you can test them on a newer iphone at the same time and compare. As long as it works, thumbs up. The next time, it could be Simba having better or comparable connection.

Jump to any other mvno or telco that provides 5G then?
If starhub is fine for you can consider GIGA 5G plan or myrepublic 5G (they using starhub infra if you buy the 5G plan)

eSIM exist for these. Shopee lazada klook so many overseas data resellers
Even if lack eSIM, changi reccomend and NPN has physical sim cards for these use case

If die die need, then SIMBA?
Thanks for the info
